Kevin & Roy RE: Bimini

Post by Terry »

Kevin, after some thought, I'm inclined to go with a standard-style, two-bow bimini from American Marine. The price isn't too bad, either. See them at:

I measured for a six-footer at 42" high, which would give boom clearance without raising it. I'm going to remeasure, though, for possibly going with a 5 footer instead. With the 5' bimini, I'd mount the brackets aft of the sheet cleats, rather than between the cleats and the winches. There would be plenty of clearance for the boom swing and the bimini would come just aft of the companionway. I figure it would fold down easily, and out of the way, to come aboard and to scurry up on the foredeck.

Roy, thanks for the suggestion. Mounting a cleat on the cabin top would certainly be easier. I suppose if I find I want the winch there, I'd already be ahead with the cleat mounted already.

All the best, Terry
