Boston Harbor Islands Regatta

Post by Neil Gordon »

Somewhat edited from the email I got today:

Dear Sailors;

It's not to early to get your entry in now by logging onto www.bostonharborislandsregatta.org.

Should be great fun with over 120 boats expected. Remember if you are a one-design class such as Thunderbirds, J/105s, 210s, Cape Dory 28s, etc.., trophies will be awarded class winners and it's a great end-of-the-season get together.

Join us for all of the festivities, starting Friday, September 26 at 6pm, the Captains meeting at the Pavilion at Boston Harbor Hotel. Then walk over to the Daily Catch at Fan Pier for the Regatta Party starting at 7:00pm.

Then, the race is on…Saturday, September 27! After the race, relax at the post-race Redbones BBQ picnic and listen for Stan's name to be called during the awards ceremony on Georges Island.

Sailing involves the courage to cherish adventure and the wisdom to fear danger. Knowing where one ends, and the other begins, makes all the difference.

I will too!

Post by Roy J. »

I haven't registered yet, but am definteily planning to do it. If any 2 more of the other CD-25s in the area will join in, we can have a class (if Neil throws his weight around!).

I crewed on Nonsly last year and had a blast -- even more so because Stan is such a good racing captain and we won. I have no such expectations for my own skills or the performance of Auburn's wrinkly bottom, but it was great fun, so I'm in.

BTW my son and I hung around off of Peddock's island for a couple of days last week, having sailed down from Salem Harbor. Lovely sunsets, hellacious thunder storms and fun hikes on the islands. The Boston Harbor Islands are a great, easily reached cruising destination for those in the Mass Bay area. Highly recommended.

I've registered my CD25, JAZ'D. I haven't raced JAZ'D but I'm in for the fun and to meet other CD'ers. I'm looking forward to the pre-race, the regatta and the post race BBQ.

Just as a reminder, although the official rules seem to state that five boats is a class, my friend on the Harbor Island Alliance board of trustees promised to dig out a trophy three races ago if I could get three. I'm pretty sure she'll the the same for the 25s (and others) as she did for the 28s. Get enough of us of various sizes and I won't be shy about asking for a trophy for first Cape Dory overall. (No promises here other than to beg.)

I'm seriously impressed that they mention Cape Dory 28s in their promotional material. There's no class for Catalinas, Hunters, etc., etc., because they've never gotten three of them.

Sprite is in

Post by jbenagh »

Make it three CD-25's. I just registered Sprite. Sounds like fun.

Jeff

PS three CD-25's converged in Salem sound this afternoon. One appeared to sail over to check out us and the other one. Didn't catch the name on her, but Boston was hailing port.

Officially 3 -- Neil do your magic, please

Post by Roy J. »

Auburn is offically registered, so we have 3 cd-25's on the books. Maybe Neil can exert his extraordinary powers and have us declared a class. I am looking forward to it, with hope that the weather is as good this year as it was last. :D

Okay, that email has been sent. I'll let you know.

Now that we have (at least) six of us registered, let's not forget the group photo as we make our way to the start.

Registered today; looking for crew.

Post by Stan W. »

I'll need some crew the day of the race, but I'm also looking for someone (or two) who would like to make a long weekend of it and join me for the sails from Duxbury to Boston and back.

The expected itinerary is:

Fri. 09/26 Duxbury to Portuguese Cove (Peddocks Island). Leave early to mid morning and arrive mid to late afternoon.

Sat. 09/27 Race day. Return to Portuguese Cove for the night.

Sun. 09/28 Portuguese Cove to Duxbury. Reverse of 09/26.

Trophy Comfirmation

Post by Neil Gordon »

I had lunch with my Boston Harbor Island Alliance board of trustees friend who confirms that three boats does indeed make a class and a class means a trophy for the fastest boat.

I know we have at least three 28s... Neil, Stan and John. Any more?

What about the 25s?

Etc.?

If you want to race with/against the other CDs, you might want to reconsider the spinnaker. The CD28s and (I think) the CD25s will be in the nonspinnaker fleet. Using a spinnaker will put you in a different fleet and the fleets are not handicapped against each other.

Some of us usually end up going to the post-race party/awards ceremony on Georges Island so we can meet up there. Later, a few of us are planning to anchor/raftup overnight in Portuguese Cove (north side of Peddocks Island) which is not far from Georges. The more the merrier.
