Sail Magazine - Is that a CD-33?

Post by Paul McCary »

On page 46 of the July issue of Sail Magazine, there is a picture of a boat that looks like a Cape Dory. It is not identified, but the clear implication is that this is the boat of the couple who wrote the accompanying article. The author's biographical footnote says that they sail a Catalina 25 (?!?). Perhaps one of the knowledgable posters on this board can confirm the identity of the boat (I may not know much, but I do know that the boat in the picture ain't no Catalina 25). Then maybe someone writes a letter to the magazine saying: "If you want to use file photos, at least tell us what the file photo is showing."

By the way, pretty nice looking boat. No wonder they selected it for the photo.

Don't think so

Paul,

The boat caught my eye as well. I don't believe it's a CD33 because they don't have a bowsprit. The coamings don't look right to be a CD. More than that I can't say. Pretty boat though.

Maybe this will help?

The majority of CD33's do not have bowsprits. All CD330's have bowsprits. The CD33 has wood coamings/seatbacks. The CD330 has fiberglass coamings with wood seatbacks. CD36's built after 1985 have fiberglass coamings with wood seatbacks.

And an opportunity to show off a pic my friend took last year.
And to celebrate how I finally figured out how to post them

Congrats on your "picture posting" skills!

Now, If I could just find a CD36 with a tiller... (and the $$$ to get it with...)...

Nah, KAYLA (who doesn't have an emergency wheel!) is just dandy for us. :D

Cathy,

Where did you get that emergency boarding ladder? It looks as though it has a tether that hangs down below the gunwale is that right?

Yep, the tether hangs down so that you can grab it from the water and deploy the ladder. I got it from Captain Al's but I think they went out of business. The ladder is made of webbing and each of the steps are covered by a piece of PVC pipe. It's all stowed in the white bag that you see in the photo (Sunbrella, I think), the bottom of which is secured with velcro.

Thanks Cathy, I will see what I can find by Googling that name. I like yours way better than the one Wichard puts out. Yours has a much cleaner appearance to it.

Have a good weekend,
