FWIW, the air was light, but sail we did. The lake was as smooth as a baby's butt, not a ripple AT ALL. I guess the wind was just a few feet above the surface. We were making 3 - 3.5 with the #1 gennie and the main, 68 degrees and great company.

For Winter Shut-ins

Well, we made it through to the other side of the dreaded 01/01/00 number, and all of it's fears.
These sailing reports are *Great*! medicince for what ails me: acute subaudible grouchiness, malaise and a growing blob of winter fat around the middle; lack of sharpness and attention to detailz, (see?); a sense that time is -for some reason- moving at half speed now. Then there is this weird need to watch sailing videos every day over Christmas vacation..jeesh.
We have 2-3 hrs. of videos from each of the past 10 years aboard our DeLaMer, and have seen them so many times now that the scenes are memorized and seem to be somewhat like a cult movie almost, where viewers come dressed in garb related to the movie and shout out lines from the movie as they happen or slightly before.
It never fails, every winter is like this. One should be used to it by now. But it is none-the-less true and remarkable. Time away from the boat proves to us anyway, that we do have something pretty special up there in Bayfield, Wisc. We have an escape pod, for mental and physical escapes. We have a lifestyle..a life sustainer actually. To top it all off, we have the finest damn boat ..in the immediate vacinity!(There are other Cape Dories about, so don't want to irrtitate their owners ya know). I guess we all are quite fortunate.
So to wrap this long rambler up, Here's a toast and a proverbial tip of the hat to all Cape Dory boat owners world-wide; {clink}

My father-in-law et.al. watched Jean Du Sud (a great movie about a singlehanded circum on an Alberg) three times on Christmas day. What better way to count one's blessing of our common interest. It's also a great movie to get you through those innevitable low points of a northern winter.
