My son, who lives too far away, is unable to share the pleasure of sailing "Adamarie" with me. In the interest of reducing the expense of ownership, he would like to hear some comments regarding becoming involved in a sailboat partnership. Any comments either pro or con would be appreciated.
Happy Holiday Season to all!

For about three seasons I had a limited boat partner that worked very well. It went like this, He had a total of three weeks, two in a row, during the summer months. He was a prof at Brown so had time off during the summer. He had unlimited use of the boat during weekdays, when I was not aboard, for day sails. I advised my insurance people, Boat/US, what I was doing and they sent him form to fill out. It cost me no extra money for insurance. Instead of receiving $$$$ from him he paid for the mooring, insurance premium etc. until he reached the agreed amount of his liability. We had a nice relationship during this time and I'm sure by now he has his own boat.
Before letting him take the boat the first time he and I went on a weekend sail so I could "check out" his abilities.
Hope this info helps,

Just be sure that *all* is defined up front. Who gets to use it when, who pays for repairs, upgrades, *toys*, etc. There should also be a way to end the arrangement, by one partner buying out the other at a predetermined price, etc.
