I am looking into purchasing a '79 Cape Dory 30' Ketch. I am trying to access the present condition and $ needed to fix her up the way I want her... I cannot tell which Volvo motor is in the boat. The # on the block is : 68794 X. The hull # is 120 ( 1979 ). If someone from this info can tell me what motor it is, a Volvo '2A or 7AB' - or where may I find this info, I would appreciate it. Also, is this a good motor fro the boat, or are there modifications / other motors that I should consider ?
Also, what is the approximate price to completely rebuild this motor ? ( it has never been rebuilt before ) What parts are typically included in a re-build i.e. shortblock rebuild ( or are there other bolt-on parts as well that will need replacing )? How about the shaft replacement price, stuffing-box and any other related items / parts I am forgetting to mention ? I am looking for an all inclusive estimate for a rebuild, incl. parts that are bad or even marginal. My goal: to not have to deal with the motor for AWHILE...
