spreaders for cd typhoon weekender

Post by windwalker111 »

I am restoring a 1975 Cape Dory Typhoon. I have the mast and boom but not the spreaders. They did have a single set right? Any clue how to get spreaders? I don't see them in the Spartan Marine catalog. I am not too sure on the standing rigging either. Anybody have any help there? I see what is listed in the owners manual and I guess that is what I will have to use. First I need spreaders. Thanks for any help with the standing rigging. Thanks

standing rigging

Post by NevisTyphoon »

I had www.riggingonly.com replace my standing rigging. Very reasonable, quality work. They had me send my old, bent, twisted, rusted standing rigging, but they will do them from specs as well.

Good luck.

Regarding Rig-Rite, they only do business via fax; forget trying to reach them by phone. I know that seems odd, but that's the only way to contact them or to place an order. That's not a very good business practice but they are the sole distributors for many of the spar manufacturers (including Spartan Spars -- for Cape Dory mast sections and parts) so they've got us by the balls if we want "original" equipment replacement. If you don't have any luck with Rig-Rite, go with Dwyer.

That's odd

I recently ordered some stuff from RigRite, and they not only answered the phone on the first try, but were also very helpful......

But I guess if Cathy feels they've got her by the balls, I would venture they have a rather unique relationship

Hi Chris,

I'm glad you were able to contact Rig-Rite by phone and received good service. But I do have to add that I've only placed a single order with them, didn't have any problems reaching them via fax and got what I ordered just a couple days later -- so I was happy. Others have not been so lucky. But Rig-Rite did have a catastrophic fire a couple years back so hopefully now they're recovered from that, service is better and they're easier to reach.

By the balls, I agree !

I broke the mast of non-CD boat a few years ago. It was a tapered Kenyon spar that had been badly twisted when the backstay got tangled in the lift. I drove the trailered boat away from the lift without seeing the tangle. So, with heart in hand, I called Rig Rite because they showed the VERY section on-line. It took a couple of calls to reach a voice and but there, they were quite helpful and pleasant. They asked that a fax be sent for them to issue a quote; in that fax, I asked additional questions, like how/when it might be shipped and payment details. They never ever responded and I'd say after a dozen more calls, I gave up. I then called Chesp. Rigging in Annapolis who found a blank elsewhere. That was a miracle since Rigrite owns/owned the extrusion means and all of the existing Kenyon stock. The process took about 9 months more than expected and cost lottttts more than planned for. So, I'm in the "by the balls" camp. Too bad !
