Can any one tell me the verticle clearance (keel to pulpit or coachroof, which ever is higher) and LOA (including bowsprit) of a CD36? I need those stats to get a quote for overland shipping via truck.
Thanks

Re: trucking a CD36
Steve: Can't give you the exact dimensions, but I trucked my CD36 from San Carlos, Mexico to Richmond, California. The truckers were able to carry without permits or escort, etc. I measured my 36 over the deck, at close to 36'. The bowsprit is an additional 2'10". I believe the limit for height is a bit over 13', and I'm sure the stock CD36 (without mast, radar tower, etc) is well below that. FYI, the cost for the haul was $3,200, including de-rigging in Mexico, and including a transshipment in Phoenix. Can any one tell me the verticle clearance (keel to pulpit or coachroof, which ever is higher) and LOA (including bowsprit) of a CD36? Last year I helped a friend move his 38 ft trawler and the hauler was also a friend and their only concerns were height and width... MOST interstate overpasses are about 16 feet and IMHO a sailboat (CD anyway) would be hard pressed to reach that height! So the only concern then would be width, and your beam is what 10 ft plus some???? So you (your hauler) would need a permit for width, but probably not for height (at least I wouldnt think so)!!!
tell him that!

Re: trucking a CD36
Steve, can't help you as to cost, but for the past seven years I worked part time at the River Forest Marina and Belhaven Shipyard in Belhaven, N.C. on the ICW. We shipped and received many sailboats longer, taller and beamier than a CD 36. The narrow beam is an advantage in this instance as it eliminates some permits. Call Axson Smith at the River Forest, 252 943 3500. He knows a lot of the boat haulers and can advise as to who is good and who is the most economical. The big new trucks designed to haul sailboats position them where the keel has minimal ground clearance. Some CD36's like mine have had disconnect terminals installed at the base of the mast for easier removal. Can any one tell me the verticle clearance (keel to pulpit or coachroof, which ever is higher) and LOA (including bowsprit) of a CD36? Re: trucking a CD36
Steve,
We trucked Parfait from Alabama to North Carolina in October. Keel to pulpit height is about 10 feet, five feet below the DWL and five above. I believe the usual vertical clearance requirements are 13 ft. 6 inches. Give the road clearance a foot and one-half and you are still home free if the mast can be carried on the trailer rather than above the coach roof. Beam is 10 ft. 8 inches; you will need permits in most places for anything more than 8 ft. The bowsprit must add 2 1/2 feet to LOD, but this shouldn't be a critical dimension.
We used Triton Yacht in Oriental, NC, a former CD dealer, but they are not convenient for you unless the boat is on the East Coast. Paul Welles came highly recommended and did a good job for us, including handling the arrangements for launching and re-rigging. Trucking seems to be fairly competitive, so shop around, but ask independently for references.
It is a great day here; we should be on the water.
