swim ladders

Post by Bob Pence »

I don't know much about CD25's but as far as swim ladders go I have had two that I really liked. One the old teak fold in the middle that hangs on brackets on the side. I had brackets on both starboard and port. I bought it at Defender but they no longer carry it and claim they can't find supplier. At present, on our CD36 we have the most unique and satisfactory swim ladder I have ever had and have never seen another like it.. It rides on the sail track on the toe rail, stows upright and aft, and is easily slid along the track to the gate, has 3 steps for use with dinghy and 5 with 2 well underwater for getting out of the water. The rungs are flat and do not hurt your feet like round stainless rungs. Swim ladders per se are not designed primarily for rescue of MOB. In over 40 years on the water I have never fallen overboard or have had anyone fall overboard on a vessel under my command. In racing it is not uncommon. Cruising, with proper seamanship and taking proper precautions this should not happen, agreed there are always exceptions and the possibility always exists.
