I'm told by my friend on the Boston Harbor Alliance board of directors that there are five trophies available for "one-designs" and that we're all set.

Last year, we had three CD28s and no others... this year, I've gotten inquiry from a CD27 owner who asked about inclusion. No problem with entering the regatta, of course but the class question comes up. We have two choices (assuming it's okay with the Regatta Committee)...

(i) stick with the strict definition of "class" so that it's a one-design standard, or...

(ii) since the race is handicapped anyway, see if the committee would be good with first Cape Dory over the finish line.

For those needing transport by sea to the anchorage or those planning on staying with me, LIQUIDITY is scheduled to depart from Marina Bay at 7:30 AM on Saturday morning. Let's make sure we confirm by email by Friday so that I have a good count.

.SAT...NW WINDS 10 TO 15 KT WITH GUSTS UP TO 20 KT...DIMINISHING TO 5 TO 10 KT WITH GUSTS UP TO 20 KT IN THE LATE AFTERNOON AND OVERNIGHT. WAVES 1 FOOT OR LESS.

Seems like good Cape Dory weather for the regatta. Any guess on which course they'll select based on the NW wind? (Hint: they don't like boats having to beat to windward through and across the main ship channel.)

Congrats to Stan and his crew on NONSLY for taking home trophies for:

1st place in Class F, non-spin boats with PHRF 202+
4th overall in Fleet 2, all non-spin boats
One-design class trophy for Cape Dory 28

John Ring and his family on TANTALUS finished 10th in Class F and 40th overall in Fleet 2.

LIQUIDITY and its band of Cape Dory ruffians finished 11th in Class F and 46th overall in Fleet 2.

Overall for Class F, 17 boats registered; two didn't finish.

Overall for Fleet 2, 59 boats registered; two didn't finish, one didn't start.

Stan was very effective at the start leaving everyone in his wake. We had a lot more wind this year. It was great fun. Thanks to Neil for getting everyone involved.

Once again we transferred a crew member to Stan and he won for the second year in a row. I'm starting to think its Stan.

What makes Stan & his crew's 4th place overall even more impressive is that finishers #1, 2, 3, 5, and 6 all had PHRF ratings below 180 (class D).

We had a great weekend, and a great race. Below are photos from Boston.

conditions (mostly healthy breezes, very short down-wind legs and a lobster boat setting a timely pick) to open up a can of Cape Dory whup-ass yesterday. She finished 2nd (the boats shown as finishing 2 and 3 in the official results definitely did NOT cross the line in front of Nonsly) overall in Fleet 2 (about 50 boats) and 1st in Class F (about 16 boats). She also won the CD 28 one design class trophy for the second year in row and, but for a rule that says if you race as a one design class you are ineligible to win the modern classic trophy, she would have won the Fleet 2 modern classic trophy as well. She jumped into the lead in the first 1/2 mile and led the entire fleet for the next 8 or so miles of the 12 mile race before finally being passed by a Baltic 43 with a crew of about 11 in what were rumored to be matching polo shirts.

Kudos to crew Bill Euker and Roy Jacobowitz who were instrumental in neutralizing the skipper's multiple errors, to John Ring and crew, wife Barbara and daughter Sarah, who joined Bill and me for dinner and drinks at a post race raft-up in Portuguese Cove, to Neil Gordon who has been the organizing spirit behind this event and to Dick Barthel, Joe Myerson and Craig Thrall who served as Neil's stalwart crew.

Stan, Neil and John,

It was a great day for a regatta, and the Cape Dorys held their own among all those other boats.

Stan was awesome, but Tantalus and Liquidity did their class proud, too. And, of course, I forgot my camera!

Thanks for letting me crew on Liquidity, Neil.

It was a real pleasure to meet so many CDers and be part of some high-quality racing. Stan is a non pareil racing captain -- excellent strategy and execution without a raised voice once. Thanks for including me, I had great time. My only regret was that I had to leave so early. The BHIR is very well organized, raises money to support the Boston Harbor Island parks, and is a great race over a beautiful course. I hope to bring Auburn down to participate on our own next year and recommend it highly for anyone else within sailng distance of Boston Harbor. Thanks to Neil for pulling us together, Stan for being such an great captain, and to John for the excellent photos.

Kudos to Stan for a "hot hand" skippering Nonsly - I'm in awe of the number of quick - right on the money - decisions he made in the thick of it .
