Hi All,
We just purchased a 1989 CD 28 Fisherman model.I am wondering, what is the most efficient rpm to cruise on ( it has the Chrysler 275 hp gas engine). Also, the boat came with A/C, whas it offered as a factory option, or was it put on after?
I have not taken her out for an extensive ride as it is nearing the end of the season for us here on Long Island but, I'm looking forward to next season.
Thanks for the help!
George

Re: New CD 28 owner seeks info!
I will pass along the information I received from someone on this site. The boat will slow cruise at 2000 to 2200 RPMs, mid cruise range on a plane at 3000 to 3200 and WOT at 4200 to 4500. My boat, (same model/engine) cruises very nicely at 3K in a relatively calm sea. Good luck with the boat. Where do you use the boat?

I had a 1987 CD 28 Open Fisherman with the same Chrysler engine as yours....I also found 3000 to 3200 to be the best....anything above that produces little in terms of speed and not worth the increased fuel consumption.
I loved the boat but traded it in on a new 1988 CD 33 which I have now had for ten years. Both are great vessels. Incidentally, I cruise and fish eastern Long Island Sound.

I am also a new owner of a 1987 Cape Dory 28 (open fisherman)owner. The prior and original owner recommended the same 3000-3100 rpm cruise speed. I have had the boat all summer on the Chesapeake Bay. This speed seems to provide best fuel economy. I have been advised to use high octane gas, but noticed that the chrysler manual gives the okay to regular unleaded (if leaded is unavailable, which of course it is). Any views? Also does anyone know where to get replacement shaft zinc?
