Zephyr is a 1984 Cape Dory 36 cutter. We have had her for three years and made many modifications in preparation for our Mexico trip, which we did last year. Still, am interested with what others have done with their 36s and welcome new ideas. Are there any other CD36 owners out there who are interested in discussing mutual problems? Would like to hear.

Re: CD36 sailboat
We have owned Misty, a 1979 CD36, since she was new and really have not had any major problems. The engine (4-108) has over 2500 hours and a new heat exchanger, rebuilt transmission, etc. have been done over the years. Misty has been sailed extensively in the Cheasapeake Bay and New England Coast. One Bermuda run also. With the boat getting to be almost 20 years old, standing rigging will be replaced in the next year or so but this is more of a preventative measure than any failures.Stephen Arian wrote:
Question - what (if any) anchor windlass arrangements have you made to Zephyr? We prefer a manual windlass (SL 555 type) but the rather smallest foredeck and staysail rigging make it difficult to locate. Any recommendations?

Re: CD36 sailboat
When we purchased Zephyr she had a SL550 mounted on the bowsprit about a foot from the aft end. We replaced that with a Lighthouse electric windlass which we mounted aft of the bowsprit, forward of the inner forstay. This has worked well because the chain (300ft.) dumps into the deep part of the anchor well. Our arrangement probably works because we eliminated the staysail boom and installed rolling furling for the staysail. The boat carries the weight of the chain and windlass well (total of about450 lbs.).
