Passing it on.
Forgive this off-topic digression, but yesterday we passed a significant milestone in our family. My oldest daughter (12) flew solo yesterday while my wife and I worked on the boat. She logged roughly 20 miles on her own. This is one insignificant step for man but one giant step for us.

No Need To Apologize
Hi Carl,
I think that is great. You must be very proud of her.
All the best,
O J

I remember those days...
I assume you are referring to soloing towards a private pilot ticket. In my early 20's I would arrive at the field first, before 6:00 am in the dead of the NH winter. Freeze my fingers off doing the preflight inspection. Heat up the engine *then* the instructor would show up for a pre-dawn lesson before our real jobs started.
Funny thing is, I quit as soon as I achieved the license.

Flying Solo
I guess I meant that as a metaphor. I meant she was in complete control of the boat with no help from mom or dad. I didn't mean to imply she was taking flight lessons. Sorry for the confusion.

Carl,
I thought you might be speaking metaphorically. But then I also thought you might be speaking literally, and was wondering whether we should encourage this!
Glad you are talking tiller-time. Congrats to you and your daughter. Must be great to have an extra hand you can trust. I remember your kids as being wicked cute, and real troopers.
See you on the cruise next month!

awesome
Carl,
That is still an awesome accomplishment any way you slice it. You must have been a pretty good teacher. Its to late for my sons but I'd love some tips for my grand kids!

It's a great feat for her and you should be proud
That's great Carl,
My daughter is two years behind yours, but she loves to take the helm. Kinda like all of us when we were a bit younger. Don't know where I'm going or how I'm gonna get there, but I'll get there ahead of you, and don't tell me how to do it.
She'll listen to me when we are about to run into a bridge or a shrimp boat, but if there is open water, she don't listen to nobody.
"Daddy you told me to steer 210, if you've changed your mind, just tell me". Wind shifts be damned.
She's a pistol, and I'm sure your's is too.
We're doing something right.

Yup. Headin' up to Maine.
Hi Tom,
Yes, we'll be heading up to Maine on August 10th. This time, we're hoping to make the trip from Portsmouth to John's Bay in two days instead of three, unless of course the wind is out of the northeast. If that happens it'll definitely be a three-day trip again. Glad you're getting use out of that Honda gas can.
Dean, I have a bottle of 18-year old Glenmorangie single malt scotch just waiting for a toast in Maple Juice Cove.
Everyone else, thanks for your encouragement. Maybe it wasn't so off-topic after all.
