Your sailboat's capsize risk, hull speed, etc.

In the past requests have been made on this board for information regarding the offshore capability of our Cape Dory sailboats -- including requests for information on capsize risk and hull speed.

This information is now accessible from the "<a href="http://www.toolworks.com/capedory/ccdoinfo.htm">About Cape Dory Boats</a>" web page located on our website. Click on the "Specifications of Cape Dory Boats" link or scroll down to the specifications. You'll see the new links there.

The first will bring you to the <a href="http://www.image-ination.com/sailcalc.html">Sailing Calculator</a> at the www.image-ination.com website. Here you can get the specifics on your boat and compare it to others. Click on the "Compare Boats" link or scroll down the page. Select your boat from the scrollable list on the left -- all Cape Dory sailboat models are represented, from the Typhoon to the Cape Dory 45. The lists are in alphabetical order, so Typhoon owners need to scroll down to the "T"s. Then select the boat you'd like to compare it with from the scrollable list on the right, or just pick your boat again if you're only interested in the figures for your boat. Then the Performance Comparison page will appear. Click on the "Go Away" button to get back to the Sailing Calculator or to choose another boat.

For a detailed description of what all the numbers mean, you can visit John Holtrop's website and check out the <a href="http://www1.iwvisp.com/jholtrop/Article ... tm">Design Basics</a> technical article. This website is also accessible from the "About Cape Dory Boats" webpage on our website.

Excellent info on these sites Catherine. We used the data now on these sites to select our CD25 when we wanted the most seaworthy boat we could find that was still trailerable. CD25 owners that visit these site will discover that the CD25 matches the "best of the best" in all areas except comfort motion. Here of course, the effect of smaller mass has an negative effect. Need to clip on but the boat is still very seaworthy as compaired to other possible contenders.
