CD 33 MY Fuel Consumption

Post by Charles Drumm »

Dear CD Owners,

I am considering moving to the dark side after years of sailing. Can anyone provide a decent fuel consumption estimate for a CD 33 MY with twin Volvo TAMD41 diesels ??

Thank You, Chuck

Fuel usage

I cannot give you any definitive numbers, but I sail the boat weekly on average (south Texas) and fill my 20 gallon tank twice per YEAR! It is a 15 minute motor from dock to sail.

Chuck:

For the Volvo TAMD41, 200 hp six cylinder engine, you should expect to use about 4 gal./hr./engine at cruising speed. I came across a figure of 11.5 liters per hour for this engine with a single screw application--not a CD33 though. Perhaps someone with a CD33 M/V can provide actual numbers for you. You may wish to check the "Boat Registry" on this Board for any CD33 M/V owners and possibly contact them directly. I think Richard Bell thought you were referring to a CD33 S/V. You did state a CD33 MY (motor yacht). I recently moved to the "dark side" after 20+ years of sailing (CD Ty and CD22D) and now have a 21' downeast lobster style boat equipped with a 4 cyl. 75 hp. Yanmar 4JH3-TE diesel engine.
