Carolina Fleet: July Float-In Oriental!

Post by Pete »

Oriental, NC Float-In July 7-9, 2007

Ahoy Carolina Cape Dorians! Our July ‘Float-In’ is drawing near, and I wanted to give those intending to participate some important information.

This event is scheduled to coincide with the Annual Croaker Festival (http://www.Croakerfestival.com). The Festival generates funds for local charities and has been well attended in recent years; this year promises to be better than ever. You might just see someone you know in the parade!

The general plan is to arrive via boat by Friday evening, or by car for locals and drive-ins on Saturday morning. Check out the above website for activity schedules. Most of the Fleet already calls Oriental their home port, but for those sailing in, try to arrive at the Harbor Anchorage area early on Friday if possible, due to the expected crowds and limited space.

Lou Ostendorff, Cruise Captain for this event, is hosting an open house at his Schoolhouse Condo (#12), beginning immediately after the parade (10:00 AM) and thru the day and evening. At 6:00 PM, cocktail hour will begin, followed by a shared covered dish supper which has been a great success on various previous gatherings. Charcoal grills are available, and seafood dishes are very welcome!

Weather permitting, an outstanding fireworks display will begin around 9:30 PM. The Cape Dory crowd is invited as guests down to the old Oriental Yacht Club (OYC) to gather around the boats and enjoy a spectacular aerial barrage.

For those traveling long distances and not wishing to make local reservations, Lou has graciously planned an informal ‘sleepover’, wherein you can avail yourself of the large open area of his condo and unfurl your sleeping bag/pad on the rug, and hang out for the evening. Guest bathrooms are no problem, so if you want to come and stay for the night, I think we can make room.

For any additional information or questions, contact Lou directly at home (919) 676-7437 or by cell (919) 906-2418.
