What do you use to navigate the Chesapeake?

Post by drb9 »

I mostly stay within a day of Herring Bay, so I think the $60 collection of ADC maps of the entire Chesapeake is a little extravagent. Are there other collections of charts that are good for this area?

The state of Maryland publishes a book of charts for the Maryland portion of the bay for about $25 as I recall. You can get it at any chandlery.

My Maryland guide is pretty old. I haven't been able to find a newer version. Maybe I need to look harder . . . .

Ditto on the state of MD chart book.

Did you hit all the West Marine's in the Annapolis area? There has to be a marine bookstore in Annapolis that carries it. I believe that you can also order it from the state.

Here's a link where you can print free ones. Scroll down to 12266 for Herring Bay.

I had a chart book called something like "northern chesapeake cruising guide" which covered, as it suggests, all the northern chesapeake, perfect for your cruising area, and about 1/4 chart size and included its own clear plastic case for use in the cockpit.
