Date set

Post by GrFa »

Hello all,

I thought I would push this up to the top. The dates have been set aside finally for this trip: June 18th-20th. So far it looks like a high pressure system should be moving into the area for that date range leaving good weather.

Anyone get a guest mooring at the Atlantic Highlands Yacht Club or Keyport Yacht Club before? I am assume they moorings have everything or do I need to provide my own pendant (rigging to the boat)? It looks like this will be our first stopover point.

We are hoping to catch a rising tide Tuesday morning that will push up all the way up the river. Any last minute tips? Thanks again!

Hi Greg,

The guest moorings at both clubs are all set up. All you need is a boat hook. There's an anchorage area in Atlantic Highlands, so if you want to save money, you can anchor instead of getting a mooring.

There are moorings on either side of the channel behind the breakwater. Anchor east of and outside of the southern mooring field in 10-20 feet of water. You'll still be behind the breakwater.

Maybe we'll see you there (can't promise anything).

Fair winds,
Cathy

Well as the planning stages continued over the past few days the trip is set up like this:

Day one: Forked River to Brielle Yacht club. Head out of Barnegat inlet into the ocean and duck back into Manasquan inlet and into the Brielle Yacht club for the night.

Day two: Brielle Yacht club to either Liberty Landing or Lincoln Harbor Yacht club. Back out of the manasquan inlet up through the narrows and to one of the clubs.

Day three: Lower Hudson to Minisceongo Yacht club. This is the homeward stretch up the Hudson.

Thanks again for all the advice. We have brought the following:
-two garmin handheld GPS (one with Bluechart maps with all the routes plotted in)
-paper charts of Hudson River and Jersey shore
-Guide to east coast cruising from Delaware to ME
-Tide charts printed out for narrows and Hudson (to keep with the current)
-wired VHF
-Radar reflector
-Cell phones
-Two signal horns
-Flares and flare gun
-New life jackets
-Medicine bag (put together a bag of meds to keep on boat-Ibuprofen, Tylenol, Dramamine, Tums)
-First aid kit

Plus lots of bottled water, snacks, clothes, pillows, rain gear, etc.

Can't wait to post up all the digital photos I'm going to take of the excursion.

Thanks again

Greg
