varnish

Hi there;

I'd like some info on how to maintain the teak down below. I'd like to bring the chart table up to a more polished (but not varnished) look. Any suggestions as to prep, products etc.

Also, I'd like any tips on removing stains from fiberglass deck. I have some drips of varnish and teak oil that I'd like to remove.

Thanks,

Dot

Dot,

The interior teak on our CD32 is the oiled satin/matte finish. I've been using Liquid Gold and have been pleased with the results.

The 10/1/99 issue of Practical Sailor has a letter from the VP of MDR, the company that makes Amazon teak treatment, saying they have a product called Strip Away which they claim will remove varnish, Cetol, etc from teak without harming the gelcoat. He says it will take multiple coats of varnish off gelcoat without harming the surface.
Practical Sailor tested it and confirmed it would not harm gelcoat, but said it left a little residue and "maybe they should have left it on a little longer." MDR is located in Merrick, NY 11566.
