Chesapeake Bay July 4th Fireworks?

Post by Evergreen »

Hello:

We will be leaving Solomons Maryland and heading north around July 1st. Unfortunately, it will not be possible for us to join the other CDs at Oyster Bay.

Question: Would some of the Chesapeake Bay sailors suggest some good places on the bay to see July 4th fireworks?

In the past, when on our Catalina 22, we really enjoyed the shows at Galesville and St Michaels. We have always been amazed how much better the fireworks shows are in the north as compared to Florida. We are not particularly interested in trying to make a show near a big city where it is always chaos afterwards and you feel like you life and boat are at risk.

Thanks for your input.

Sincerely, Philip & Sharon

rock hall on the eastern shore has a great celebration and great fireworks in a great harbor or at swan creek.

I haven't seen these, but with what I pay for a slip there, they'd better be darned good fireworks.

The fireworks at St. Michaels are on June 30, Miles River, just off the Miles River Yacht Club after sundown. Maybe you could make a tour of it, one night here, one there, one elsewhere

One concern

Fireworks bring out the crazies like nothing else. When you decide on where, plan to get there early, pick a good spot well away from any logical, or illogical, route of departure and drop the hook. Plan on spending the night. The departure is almost as good a show as the fireworks.
