PFDs

For a while the TSA would not allow CO2 cylinder, but that has recently changed. The TSA will allow up to two CO2 cylinders with an inflatable PFD. It is still up to the airlines, so check with them before you buy your ticket. I fly American and no they don't allow the CO2 cylinders, but I do recomm...

Practice, practice, practice.

I have backed in a straight line in reverse many times. You do have to practice. First check to see how the prop walk is going to effect the bow, on the 31 with a right-handed prop; the prop walk is going to push the stern to the port side and the bow will go to the starboard. If you cheat the rudde...

Mud Daubers

Mud Daubers actually provide a service for they use the spiders to feed their young. But that being said they also can make a mess of your sails. You can knock down the nests at night or if you sail away from their local hunting grounds. You can kill the adults with a flyswatter if they are really b...

Ideas

I do a lot of singlehanded sailing with a CD31. Recently I installed Lazy Jacks and they have been a lot of help. My headsail is on a roller furling, very nice, and I am looking at adding ST winches. The wheel-pilot is also a welcome addition. These items will help you spend more time with the wench...

Wheel Brake for Merriman or Yacht Specialties pedestal

I found a replacement for my CD31 at HuntersOwners.com. This takes a little work to install, but it works fine.

Troy: My lamps were also corroded as you say. I took one of the lamps apart and boiled the lacquer off. Then I was able to polish it and remove the corrosion. The result was ok at best. When you can buy new lamps for less than $30.00 each at Defender, I felt it was just better to replace the lamps. ...

Phil: That would be great. I noticed that on the on-line manuals that the first part is the same on all boats. It is the back of the manual that is specific to the model.

Cape Dory CD-31 Owner's Manual

Is there any on-line CD-31 Owner's Manual? The boat I just bought does not have one and I have looked at the CD-33 and CD-36 online, but I would like to have the line drawings and stay lengths.

Bow Sprite Plans - CD-31

All: I have recently purchased a CD-31 that was damaged in Hurricane Katrina. One of the items damaged was her bow sprite. I was looking at building one but I need dimensions, the old one was lost. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
