Re: Improving Bow Sprit/Anchor Rollers on Cape Dory 31
You could use the bails as shown, use rolled one for reduced chafe. The only concern that I would have is the strength of the bowsprit in extreme conditions. The bowsprit is only wood and would need reinforced. I use a bridle through the two chocks, unless I know it the conditions will be benign.

Re: "All Is Lost"
Don't go thinking you are going to watch a sailing movie. This is a movie about the exploration of the character with sailing being the vehicle. There a re a lot of errors when you look at the sailing aspect. Some examples would be the fact he does not have a dinghy even though he is sailing 1800 mi...

Re: Holding Tank Relocation CD31
I too have had this issue. My fix was to use copious amounts of 5200 on the joints that connect the holding tank to the bilge, I think I used 4 tubes. No issues after over 3 years. Anyway if you are looking at relocating, the options would be: 1. Right behind the toilet. 2. In the cabinet next to th...

Re: GPS, weather fax, charting
Where did LORAN to? Ha! Anyway here is a link to a good book on the subject: http://www.amazon.com/Boat-Navigation-Rest-Us-Electronics/dp/0071372261/ref=tmm_pap_title_0 Also there are many different devices to utilize for GPS navigation, I have used my Chartplotter, a GPS that connects to my laptop,...

Re: Alcohol stoves
So any carbon based item burning produces CO, wood, gas, alcohol... . CO will keep you from releasing oxygen in the cells in your body, a condition known as hypoxia. Short term use of a stove, be it gas or alcohol, will not create the conditions, even if the cabin is closed up because of rain, the b...

Re: Alcohol stoves
A. It is Carbon Monoxide (CO) that you should worry about, CO2 is what we breath out. B. All carbon burning substances produce varying levels of CO, alcohol will produce CO. C. I have sailed for many years with the old pressurized alcohol stove with no issues. I fill up the bowl and set my coffee wa...

Re: Blige pump bleeds back
Kevin: The 'return' water is because the lift height is what is causing the flow back. A step down in hose size might help.

Sta-Lok
I had to redo the rigging after Katrina to out the mast on the CD-31 I have. I did not know the length, so I have swage fittings on the top and Sta-lok fittings on the lower part. The Sta-lok fittings are not too hard to put together, but get extra cones. I worked with Rigging-Only but in FLA you co...

Room under table.
There is room under the table in the CD-31. Now is it big enough for batteries, I do not know, yet. One of my project is to cut an opening in that location to utilize the extra space for storage. I too would like to put a couple of T-105's down there if possible. To answer a couple of issues. 1.) Re...

AIS works well.
I have a Milltech SR 161 AIS receiver wich feeds AIS information into my chartplotter. It works very well for this gives me an opportunity to "see" the other traffic and be proactive rather than being passive and waiting to see what the traffic is up to. I have a rail mounted antenna that ...
