Re: Hurth tranny, 4 years old, kaput
Never say die with these transmissions. This past year I have had the transmission out of the boat three times. Last fall to rebuild it because it was slipping in forward. I bought the rebuild kit and did it my self. It took a long time to get it out and back but all seemed well. When we launched in...

Re: Shifting problem on CD 31 ZF-10M-R Hurth Transmission
Late this summer my transmission started to slip or would not go into forward when shifted or was slow to engage. Because of this I decided to rebuild the tranny. The whole process was interesting to stay the least. I disconnect the shift cable ,cooling hoses ,remover heat exchanger, disconnected th...

Re: Ice Box insulation on a CD 31
Jen and Terry I have installed a isotherm unit on my boat. I will keep the icebox around 4-6 degrees C. I feel the unit runs about 15 to 20 min an hour depending how hot it is out and how often you are getting beer. Since I am at a slip and have power I can leave it turned on all the time and fully ...

You might try Robinhood Marine in Maine for some rub rail. I had a area damaged a couple years ago. I was able to get a piece of rub rail from them . I was cut with the right angle but I had to wet it with hot water to get it to bent to the area I was working on.

Re: Cape Dory 31 cutter- comments on sailing performance
I also own a CD31. I have had it for 10 years. The way it sails is one of the thing I love about her. I sail in a river system but get out into the ocean around Maine and New Brunswick as often as I can . You got to like the green water. A great cruising boat and I don't worry about lobster pots to ...

Re: Alternator and Tach mystery
Dean First I would check to see what the voltage is at each battery while under power . This should be very near 14-15 volts if the batteries are charged. There may be a voltage difference with the # 2 battery if so it may be starting to get weak but still hold a charge. This means it will show 12 v...

You might search items by Dean Abramson . Dean had a leak in his holding tank and posted a great post on how he repaired it . There were lots of pictures. If the post is gone try a PM to Dean

Re: Removing glow plugs from Universal M25
Mike I thought I had bad glow plugs a couple years ago. I was going to change them but first I took off the wires to the plugs. Them I tested them for conductivity and they passed. When I took of the wires I noticed that the wire ends and the plug terminal were dirty. So I cleaned the wire ends and ...

Re: CD31 Vibration
Hi My 31 runs very well with no vibration. I have a three blade prop that will push me along a 5 to 6 knots. I would look to see if the flange bolts may be loose if not you could loosen them and check with a feeler gauge to see if there is any space between side to side and top and bottem. Also chec...

Re: ValvTect Marine Gasoline
Dean Up here we use hi octaine for outboard motors. The regular gas was bad enough even worse since they started to adding ethanol. I have an old motor that works quite well on the higher octaine. Still use the same mix ratio. Also was able to get a Sall magazine yesterday great story glad I could w...

Re: depth transducer removal question
Tom A couple years ago I replaced the DM transducer like you discribe. I cut the cable ,removed the nuts and then was able to get the shaft to move a little bit by using a pipe wrench but just a bit. This told me the bond between the boat hull and the transducer was broken some. Not having any luck ...
