12 years now

I bought my Fairclough for $2,600.00. It's getting a little threadbare but it's still in one piece. I also store it indoors.

Successful Mast Party

My record is 18 boats, on Sunday we did 17. 3 were ketches so we did 20 masts in 5 hours for 4 an hour. The crane guy charged us for one hour of travel or 6 hours. Everybody stays and everybody helps as best they can. The biggest time consumer is the operator moving and putting out the outriggers an...

Mast Party this weekend

We rent a crane and get together to share the cost. We can average 3 boats an hour coming down. Even with the ketches, yawls and double spreaders. We typically get it under $100.00 per boat. We'll be doing 15 or so boats this Sunday if you'd like to see it done a few times. We're in Atlantic Highlan...

On the stuffing box question

If it's the slotted type you can free the locking nut with a large flat screwdriver and a hammer. If it's hex you're going to need 2 wrenches, one to hold the packing nut and one to turn the lock nut. You may want to spray it with penetrating fluid first. Once free, back the lock nut off a little an...

12 years old

and still holding up well. So it's been out in the winter weather for like 6 years.
At $2,600.00 including the frame, in '97 that's $216.00 a season, so far. And the boat's been covered for 6 years.

Yeah that's the one

The one on the very top of my rudder post wore out. It made a lot of noise and had some play in it.

I do keep an eye on the cables, and have had to tighten them, but I have not serviced or looked into the rudder stuffing box yet.

Bushing on top

My RH 36 has a bushing at the top of the rudder shaft that started to make noise and was worn out. It was a knuckle buster to replace but not too difficult. Mine is accessible just underneath the emergency tiller access port. Check it out.

I'm going for it

After 13 years the Armada is looking pretty patched and in some areas downright bad. Karen and I have all the brightwork inboard of the rails stripped. We're going to apply 2 coats of West System epoxy then 7 or 8 coats of Epiphanes. We intend to do this under the cover. We'll do the rails and bowsp...

Cass' marine

I work for a company based out there. On one of my first business trips out there I went looking for a boat to rent. I found this funky little outfit in Sausalito. They own old Bristols, Cal 20 somethings, J 24s, Santanas etc.., all in ship shape condition. They also represent owners of larger boats...
