I Remember my visit
I purchased RH36 hull # 205 in Dec '96. It was their boat show boat for the fall show season in '96. They asked if they could show her at this show in March '97. She was the queen of the show. The Governor of ME showed up and visited while I was aboard. Pretty heady stuff. They traded me a few thing...

How 'bout a manual windlass
I've been thinking of a windlass for our RH36.
I am considering a manual one. Am I crazy?
And when I looked in the new West catalog that just arrived I didn't even see one.

Bottom Paint removal
I've tried them all and there's always a gotcha. Paint remover is a horrible mess, It drip all over you and the ground, sand blasting is complex and catching everything is tough. Strip away didn't do it for me, I believe because there was just too much for it to penetrate. I have decided that for me...

Alignment
I have always been told to wait 'til she's been in the water for a few days. Most boats change shape slightly when braced up. I replaced the engine in my previous boat, an Alberg 35, and did an initial alignment, of coarse, while braced up but did it again after a few days in the water. There was a ...

I take it down every year
One of those very divided questions. I've always taken it down. My last boat was deck stepped and current boat is keel stepped. This only makes a little difference, you just have to be careful. Here on the shore in Jersey it's soo windy so much of the winter and the vibration can't be good. We're in...

Sumps
On Colleen Marie, a 96 RH36, I have the sump under the engine and the sump created by the shape of the top of the holding tank. At first I too questioned the reasons. The engine sump is obvious and catches anything from the engine. I keep it clean and it's white and I can see if the engine is losing...

Jackline placement
On Colleen Marie I run webbing down each side of the house right in the radius where the house and deck meet. I put padeyes as low as possible and as far aft and fwd as possible on the house. I bought a tether that just lets me reach the pulpit. This works great and gives me great mobility while har...
