Re: Corroded Steering Bracket
Ron, I do have the manual you quoted. The picture is more concept than reality. My bracket is bolted to the cockpit aft wall. Also the rudder tube extends almost to the steering gear and is fiberglassed to the bracket. A few years back I built a new aft bracket (which is glassed to the hull) out of ...

Corroded Steering Bracket
Hello All, Does anyone have a photo of the bracket under the worm gear steering on an older CD30? This is a steel bracket in the wheel house in the cockpit. It connects the rudder tube to the back of the cockpit. Mine is rusted away and I will be fabricating a new one out of stainless. Any pictures ...

Get rid of the V-Drive.
My YSB-12 is still going strong. But every time I work on it I vow to rip out the V-drive. Everything is conviniently located on the front on the engine - which is facing aft under the cockpit. When you repower do yourself a favor, remove the V-Drive.

Re: Elliot's cut
I've seen your boat as I've traveled the waterway. Isn't it between the bridge and the fire station. I worked barge tugs in the area. Elliot's cut is really treacherous sometimes. Running it without adequate power can be an exciting ride. Yes, thats my boat. Elliot Cut is treacherous at all times e...

My 1977 CD30 Ketch Blue Moon has the Yanmar YSB12. It was original equipment and is rated at 10 HP. I have had her since 1997. It has a 3 bladed prop, and the power is reasonable. A few times I have had to tack under power when heading into very steep waves. Also I am docked just north of Elliot Cut...

Steve, I careen my CD30 every two years or so for bottom painting. This is one of the great advantages of having a modified full keel. I do it on a sandbar in a river with not to much fetch to reduce wave action. One side on Saturday and one on Sunday. I have done it on a flat sandbar and one with a...
