Re: CD 25 Portlights Replacement Solution!

I wonder when they made the change to plastic frames. I'm fairly certain my 1974 CD25 had aluminum frames.

Re: History: Adding Storage to a CD 30 Power (2003)

Thanks for re-posting this even if it is from 2003. There a lot of great ideas here that we can all benefit from and start thinking creatively about where we may find spaces we didn't even know about.

Re: Cape Dory 30-36 Chainplates

I think a lot depends on the year of manufacture. My former CD30 had mild steel backing plates. After 40 years, they were still fine, because I and the former owner re-bedded stanchions and deck hardware regularly.

Re: Searching for a '24 Cape Dory Trawler

As Joe mentioned, the CD24 trawler is kind of a unicorn. The CD28 Cruiser is much more plentiful and can easily be single-handed. The wider side decks make going to the forepeak anchor locker safer. I know this wasn't your question, but the CD28 Cruiser model isn't exactly slumming it.

Re: Overheating

It happened again. This time the seaweed completely blocked the raw water intake hose so that there was no water flow coming out the tailpipe. It happened in the east end of the Isle Au Haut Thorofare where it gets shallow, for those who know where that is. We had to drop anchor and deal with it und...

They all start with CPD. I'm curious how you got the information that they started with CDN?

Re: CD 25 In Water Care

Hi Dick, I had one on my former CD25. It's one of those things that sounded good but was completely unworkable in practice. The only way to get the bag over the lower end was to pull the outboard out of the well and put the bag over it, then re-install and fill. At that point, you've done all the wo...

Re: repowering cd 28

I have to ask. Are you considering re-powering because of an overheating issue or are there other factors driving the decision? You didn't say whether water is making its way through the cooling system to the exhaust. If so, then the water pump is fine. The next thing to look for is the exhaust elbo...

Re: Whisker pole for CD25 - size?

Try this from Forespar. You can search by manufacturer and then by model. The CD25 is listed. If it's only a whisker pole you need, it appears they recommend the HD 6ft to 12ft with a padeye at the mast (i.e. no T-track). There are also recommendations for spinnaker poles, but that wasn't your quest...

Sorry, can't help you with this one, but for everyone else's knowledge, Walt started the California Cape Dory Owners Association back in mid-1990s. It is now defunct. Good to hear from you, Walt.

This isn't exactly a bimini, but it is highly effective in getting out of the sun once at anchor.

2024 NE Fleet Maine Cruise Photos

Here are the last three. The first is CD28 Cruiser Loon under way en-route to McGlathery Island. The second is of Tenants Harbor near sunset where we held our closing dinner. We didn't think to take any photos of the closing dinner. The third is going back to Pulpit Harbor at night. The moon perfect...

2024 NE Fleet Maine Cruise Photos

In case anyone thought we only anchored and party, here are some boats under sail. Sorry, we weren't able to photograph them all. Starting with the CD30Ks, the first and second photos are of Paul and Ellen DeOrsay on Antares entering Fox Islands Thorofare. They are the ones with tanbark sails. The s...
