Re: Typhoon Rudder

OJ passed away in 2020 at 94. He was an extraordinary man. You can read about John Dunn's accomplishments on capedorysoa.org under Alberg Fellows.

Re: substitute for Spartan sea cock grease

The previous owner of my boat swore by Morey's Super Red. The seacocks all moved fine and were well maintained. I'm an easy drive to Georgetown, Maine so I switched to Spartan seacock grease.

Re: 2025 Maine Cruise - Save the Dates!

We have four boats registered so far. Memorial Day weekend is a great time to finish planning your summer. Register soon before all the available moorings in Camden are taken!

Re: Fire Hazard

Jean - thanks for sharing tis experience. Thankfully, no actual harm done. Fire is the one thing that scares the crap out of me. Check those fire extinguishers everyone!

Moorings are proving unavailable in Rockland due to the Lobster Festival. Slight change in plans. We will start the Cruise in Camden instead of Rockland.

Re: Port side bulk head

I hate to see a post go un-answered, so I'll get the conversation started. Full disclosure, I sold my CD25 at least a decade ago. This is really not a bulkhead in the traditional meaning. It is not tabbed to the hull and is not structural. It's really a modesty panel. I know of at least two CD25s th...

Re: 2025 Maine Cruise - Save the Dates!

Registrations are now "live" on the capedorysoa.org Events Calendar. When you register, you are able to pick which anchorages you plan to go to. Don't be surprised if you see "Everyone" under your name when you register. We opened registrations up to everyone which is why it show...

2025 Maine Cruise - Save the Dates!

This year's Maine Cruise will be in Penobscot Bay from August 2 to 8, 2025. Sarah Ruef-Lindquist and Peter Lindquist (CD30 Windquist) of Camden, Maine have offered to organize this year's cruise. I'm posting this on their behalf. Here is the tentative itinerary, subject change due to weather, etc. A...

Re: Anchor Light Help for Typhoon Weekender

The only thing I would add to what the others have said is never forget to rig up a downhaul, so you can get whatever you send up the backstay back down. Don't ask me how I found that out. That's a mistake you make once.

Re: Northeast Fleet Cabin Fever Lunch - March 15, 2025

It has taken me a few days to report on the Cabin Fever Lunch. We had roughly 50 people in attendance! It was a great day and a chance to get together over lunch, re-connect with friends and make some new ones. Fleet Captain Dave Hemenway kicked us off with what's happening in the Northeast Fleet an...

Re: CD30 Keel Hole

From your description, it sure sounds like a garboard drain with the plug removed, although the location seems a little high up on the keel. Some boatyards tape the garboard drain plug to the propellor. I don't think Cape Dory installed garboard drains. It would have been done by a previous owner. D...

Our guest speakers for the Cabin Fever Lunch will be Jeremy and Erica Elwell who, among other things, sailed their CD28 Sparrow to Ireland. Come hear of their passage and their future plans as they return to Galway and resume their journey.

Keep those registrations coming!

Northeast Fleet Cabin Fever Lunch - March 15, 2025

The Cabin Fever Lunch is just over three weeks away! The Cabin Fever Lunch is an annual event of the Northeast Fleet held at Newick's Lobster House in Dover New Hampshire. It's an opportunity to get together in an informal setting and enjoy lunch together near the end of a long winter. There will be...
