Re: Northeast Fleet Cabin Fever Lunch - March 9

The supply issue is not of our making and we have no control over it. Andy will bring as many books as his publisher has available. We expect over 50 people in attendance, most of whom will likely want a book. Some people will need to order the book from the website. We don't want to micro-manage th...

Re: Northeast Fleet Cabin Fever Lunch - March 9

Andy will have a "limited number" of books available. I suspect the demand will exceed the supply. We cannot process credit cards. Please plan accordingly and bring your checkbook and of course cash is always king. Keep those registrations coming!

Re: Cape Dory 7 1/2 Hull 129 Dink - more info on these boats?

Adding to what Dave Perry posted, Dick Eldridge is registered for the Northeast Fleet Cabin Fever Lunch on March 9, 2024 at Newick's Lobster House in Dover, New Hampshire. There is another topic on this forum with information to register.

March 9th may seem a long way out, but it's not. It will be here before you know it. Don't miss out on this opportunity to see Andy Vavolotis in person! Keep those registrations coming.

Re: Cape Dory 25 folding door for the head

I'm all for the curtain idea. Even when latched in the open position, bifold doors have an annoying way of slapping when you are under way, or at anchor if there is any swell at all. It's right up there with halyard slap on someone else's boat at night. So annoying.

Re: Typhoon MOB Gear

I do not keep anything tied to it. I don't want anything that could potentially get tangled or in any way interfere with immediate deployment. I should have said at the outset that I consider this a retrieval system. PFD use on all my previous sailboats was mandatory when on deck, so I was more conc...

Ah, yes, the one that got away. I miss my old CD25 that I sold probably 20 years ago. I loved that boat.

Re: Typhoon MOB Gear

Not a Typhoon, but take a look at the throwable bag mounted to the stanchion in the photograph below. The bag is filled with floating line. This is just one of many options to consider.

Re: Bylaws Committee provides a draft rewrite

If I may piggyback on what Fred said, these are actually new bylaws that were based on the previous CDSOA bylaws. Not to get into the weeds too much, but we re-incorporated CDSOA in a different state. That's why these are new bylaws. Most people wouldn't notice a difference, but some long-time activ...

Re: Advice for new owner of a Cape Dory 22

I had a CD25 with the same Tohatsu 6HP. I had no trouble achieving hull speed in relatively benign conditions and had no trouble making reasonable headway in adverse conditions. Even on a CD25, 9.9 HP is a lot of horses. Hull speed is hull speed. More horses won't push the boat any faster, and will ...

Re: Advice for new owner of a Cape Dory 22

When you get a new outboard, think about how you will use it and get the smallest outboard that will suit your needs. In my opinion, 9.9 Hp is way too big for a CD22. Of course, this assumes a gas powered outboard. Hopefully others will chime in about your search for an electric outboard, as I have ...

I have one you can borrow. When and where do you need it? It's on my boat at the moment in mid-coast Maine. If you're planning to attend the NE Fleet winter meeting at Flanders, I could hand it to you in-person.

Sheep on McGlathery Island - Fact or Fiction?

We spent two days this summer anchored off McGlathery Island in Merchants Row in Penobscot Bay, Maine. Is there any truth to the rumor of sheep on McGlathery Island? Has anyone ever seen them? We spent two fruitless days looking for them. Alas, the second photograph below was the closest thing we ev...
