Second hatch board

My gimbal stove came with a mounting bracket for quick disconnect. I secured the bracket to the second hatchboard from the bottom. When the weather is bad, I place the hatch board in it's normal position and cook inside. When the weather is good, I reverse the hatch board and the stove gimbals outsi...

Solar Shower

Buy a solar shower and use the extra space for storage. I never liked the idea of a shower on a smaller boat. While at sea, it just isn't something Id do. And at anchor, it creates too much moisture below. Larger boats have adequate room, drainage and ventilation. I had a 32 footer before and I even...

ditto on the chain plates

Now that you are replacing your standing rigging, pay close attention to the chain plates. This now becomes the weak point in your system.

tips for a headsail bag

I have one for my 25 and I love it. If I could make mine better, I would like it a bit larger. Also, I'd make it so the zipper slide can not come off or else attach a lanyard to it. Otherwise, you will loose the slide overboard. I learned this the hard way. I would also like a zipper that zips from ...

ICW Stuart through Okechobee

If you decide to follow the ICW through Florida, pay close attention to the channel, especially at Stuart (when you turn west until you cross under the bridges). Don't cut this path short, you will run aground. Also, when you enter Lake Okechobee, follow the rim around. Water can be very skinny on t...

Reducer/Solvent

John,
I would use Styrene as a reducer. You can use Acetone as a solvent for clean up but when used as a reducer it leaves the finish softer that would Styrene. Also, in equal quantity, Styrene thins and sprays better.

I've stepped mine a few times. The mast isn't heavy and a couple of people can guide it down fine. Take your time. Keep it on center and tied off on either side. If the boat is in the water, people moving around is the worst. The boat will heal and the mast will sway. Keep everyone on center and min...

Trailer in Sarasota, Fl

I am in need of a trailer to rent/borrow in the vicinity of Sarasota, Fl. It will be used to move my CD25 approximately 500 ft. to a work area so that I can paint the bottom. I will need it for less than a week. Can anyone help me out?

electrolysis vs. corrosion

In a few weeks I will be setting up a mooring. I am using a helix type screw rather than a mushroom or pyramid. My concern is where I shackle the chain to the end of the screw shaft (the eye of the screw). The screw hot dipped galvanized steel and the shackle can be stainless or galvanized. If I use...

Make your lines long

I like to make my halyards longer than specs. This way, after a year of chafe on the sheaves, I can resplice the eye a few inches back. This will extend the life of the lines and you won't have to replace them as often.

The Thin One's

Thin shaft small outboards fit through the well where the thick shafts are too large. I also like to look at weight. If your going to raise the motor and wash it faithfully after each use, weight is a major issue. I like to keep the weight between 50 and 90 lbs, all other variables considered.

And another thing

I also forgot to tell you that the machine shop drilled the holes to line up with the existing holes in the boat. These hole can be drilled by you if you have a good bit. With the holes all lined up and the mast down, replacement was a snap. Between the two hing plates is a 3/4" gap. Once you c...

dwyer info

here is the link for dwyer. Click on the link to the mast extrusion you have and you will find the tabernacle you need. Mine was about $80 with shipping. There are other options to explore. I had a local machine shop punch a hole for the electrical wires which cost me another $20. The link is http:/...
