Re: Hi there. I'm fixing up a 1975 Cape Dory 28
You are going to enjoy the CD 28. I have an older model as well....I replaced the plastic ports with bronze ones and repowered. By the way, there is a Volvo Penta MD2B available if Plainville, CT if you need to repower or rebuild. I have had my CD 28 for years and I love it....it is the only boat I ...

Single handing?? Roller furling!!
I am always single handing on my CD 28 (Peapod)....and that nice roller furl is perfect for me. As a matter of fact, I have rigged my club footed jib for roller furling. With a club footed jib, roller furl and the Aries self-steering, single handing is just pure fun with few hair-raising episodes.

Volvo Penta MD2B available
A number of people have expressed interest in parts for the MD2B (21 hp). One of these engines has been removed from a CD 28 in Plainville, CT. It has a newer model transmission. The boat is being parted out following extensive storm damage, but it appears that the previous owners took good care of ...

Fuel tanks
I have seen a number of postings for fuel tanks. There are a couple of fuel tanks on the CD being parted out in CT. I posted the information on the buy/sell section.

Fuel tanks, boom, deck hardware
When I went to CT to pick up my ports, I had a chance to look at the CD 28 that is being parted out. The boat is a total loss but there is some good deck hardware, main boom and fuel tanks. I don't know what the tanks look like inside, but they seemed good. There was also a Racor fuel filter, manuel...

Dodger - What if ... ??
Hello all, The dodger on my CD 28 is an Island Nautical and it has served me very well. It still looks fine but the fabric is near the end of its life...it is somewhat weak and I don't think it will last much longer. I had an idea which I wanted to run by people on this board. I am considering fiber...

Repower
I repowered my CD 28 last summer....best thing I ever did. I had the volvo MD2B....it was as great engine but after the crankcase filled with seawater for the second time, it was time to go. Now I have a 3 cyl. Beta Marine and I really love it. The volvo sounded like a city bus....the Beta sounds li...

I almost switched ... glad I didn't
I almost retrofitted my 28 with a wheel...but I decided not to do it. My vote goes to tiller.... I feel much closer contact with the forces on the rudder, no worries about the moving parts of a wheel, and despite the room it takes up, the fact that it can be cocked up at anchor makes up for it. The ...

New fuel tanks.
I also replaced my tanks with new ones from Florida Marine Tanks. All I had to do was tell them it was for a '76 CD 28...they had the plans and drawings already. The new tanks arrived in no time and they are great. The old ones just barely squeezed out ... the new ones do not have the same construct...

WB 8 good for single handers
Accoustic, you are right...the Walker Bay 8 is small...and two people is about the max but since I am almost always single handing, it is right for me. I would not agree that it is difficult to row....I think it is a breeze....and I often take the rudder and sail with me when I want to use it as a s...

plastic fantastic
This may bring some laughs, but I have tried a number of hard and inflateable dinks. After all of them, I bought a Walker Bay 8 and it is perfect. It is nearly indestructable, maintenance free, easy to manage and when I come up alongside, it does not mar the hull of my cd 28. It tows, motors, sails ...

mast support
The plate which distributes the load under the mast is very very heavily built. I have never heard of one failing and I would be very surprised if the broker is correct. Remember that brokers are not necessarily savvy about boat construction just as real estate agents generally don't know squat abou...

Thank you for this good information
Thank you very much for these helpful responses. My mooring is in 12' with a much smaller tide rise (about 3') than anything in Maine. Therefore, I will not need as much chain. The cove I am in is quite small and only has three moorings. Our harbormaster does not want us to be able to swing too much...
