just for fun
Just for fun, I would recommend Chasing the Horizon by Cap??n Fatty Goodlander. He???s a real Caribbean Sea gypsy. I found his short stories to be a mix of laugh out loud humor, bizarre antics, and slacker style adventure and somehow, in a very indirect way, he captures the essence of sailing passio...

Free Flying Furling?
I recently came across Schaefer???s Free-Furling system and was wondering if anyone had experience and/or critique of this type of product? I am planning on resurrecting the original staysail plan that was removed by the previous the owner. I like the idea of getting the sail out of the way by use o...

Sloop to cutter again?
When I purchased my CD30 the staysail boom and staysail forestay had been removed. I would like to get the cutter plan back in action and talked with my local rigger about a new forestay. He went mumbling on about a running backstay. I dismissed it at the time, but have started to wonder if the orig...

With a lot of wood surface I use a stripper. Around hardware, angles, and small surfaces a heat gun works well. As mentioned, a good scraper is critical. I use both of these: [img]http://www.highlandwoodworking.com/ProductImages/scraping/031512.jpg[img] [img]http://www.highlandwoodworking.com/Produc...

Re-power questions
Looking to re-power my CD30. I searched the board under repower/re-power and found some helpful info. Just wanted to ask a few specific questions and would appreciate your ideas. I like the Standard Beta 16. Anyone have experience with this one? How does it fit and mount? Thoughts on the 16 vs. 20? ...

Winter drain fastener on seacock
I appreciate all the threads on seacocks and they have been very helpful. I haven?t been able to find one concerning the proper use of the drain fastener on the seacock. I am planning on leaving the boat in the water this winter and want to be sure to drain residual water form the seacock. Do you ju...

Was a CD30 designed 1975 or earlier?
There is a Regatta that has a class for boats designed in 1975 or earlier, and I would like to participate in that class. What determines the year a boat was designed, and when was the CD30 designed? I really appreciate your facts or thoughts. -W I know they were built between 1976 and 1986. _______...

Bronze Disease or Patina?
The bronze on the on the forestay chainplate is almost black with dull yellow flecks. It doesn't look like the good green patina on the rest of the bronze hardware. I don't know much about bronze disease, so my imagination has decided to give me something else to worry about. Any info you want to sh...

Over the last few weekends I have been removing Cetol from my CD30. I searched the board and found a lot of good advice. One more tip would be to visit your local woodworking shop and buy several good scrapers. They tend to be much better than those at the local hardware store and worth every dollar...
