Poli-Glow

Warren: I have found that, at least here in New England where the season is short (but the Winters are long and the storage is outside) I get two good years out of a Poli-Glow treatment. I have done touch-ups in subsequent years, or sometimes just skipped another year and then stripped it all the wa...

I'm with the more optimistic of the other posters here - this is a $1 boat, but if you are up for the challenge, it sounds like a noble cause.

Keep us posted on your progress.

The Keel

Seth:

If I recall correctly, the line drawing that I have (somewhere in my incredibly well-organized "files") shows the keel, and little else, parallel to the DWL.

Try CAM Machine in Bristol - 401-254-1950. If they can't help you, I can have my guys take a look at it, but depending on the design and the condition of the original, it sounds like it may need to be fitted to the boat, and you will want someone local (my shop is up near Boston). If the parts that ...

Bill: A shop in Fall River, MA just did a new stern rail for my CD27 (same story as yours, except on a mooring and we weren't there). I don't have contact info, as the work was done through the boat yard, but can get it for you if you think you would ship the old one that far (or pay for a mobile ri...

A photo of the long lost Guthrie Roller can be found here: http://mysite.verizon.net/dmaio/id2.html I tried for a while this morning to upload a photo, but I am not at the office and am somewhat handicapped anyway. One remaining example, except for the one I have not yet mounted on Remedy and the on...

Jimbo: It may not take a couple of days. The key is to tighten the flange evenly. When I did this (several years ago), I used four long bolts - perhaps 4" - between the flanges and, as I recall, a 9/16" deep-well socket between the transmission and the shaft end. The key to the "whate...

The decommissioning, after John's suggestion, more or less, will be this evening.

Boat (sort of) Parting Ceremony?

I am in the process of separating the bow and stern of a WW II era DUKW - a "Duck Boat" - for a museum exhibit, and wondered if there is an appropriate ceremony to accompany the event. Perhaps something similar to Vigor's Denaming Ceremony is familiar to someone on the board. We don't want...

Ron: Your post was plenty clear; I should have pointed out that I was making a different point about another obscurity (in case you were going in that direction too). In addition to the deck pump-out from the holding tank (an entirely insufficient six gallons or so) we have an arrangement using a Y-...

Deck Fitting may not be Standard

Ron: One note to add to Andy's comments: Some CD's have 1 5/8" hose from the deck cleanout fitting down to the holding tank. The fitting on the tank may be a 1 1/2" barbed hose fitting, and the 1 5/8" hose will snug down on the barbs just fine with a couple of hose clamps - it will se...

Guthrie Roller

Cliff Guthrie has a slick setup on his CD27, the parts for which I have replicated, but not yet installed on my CD. Sadly, the link to the photo he posted of his setup seems to have gone bad: http://www.capedory.org/board/viewtopic.php?t=13024&highlight=27+bow+roller It's basically a stainless a...

PoliGlow

I have used Poliglow a few times over the past decade on Remedy, our CD27. With decent prep, it gives a good, season-long shine. I've never had the good fortune to be able to string two seasons together where I could give a maintenance coat the second year, but the second year with no maintenance lo...

Jim Stull replaced the chainplates on his CD27 a number of years ago - I remember the posts on the board, and at one point he sent me the pattern for the stainless steel plates he was having made up to replace the glassed-in chainplates. It definitely seems like a significant repair, and therefore w...

Dave Tripp and John Vigor

Dave Tripp, who is one of the most knowledgeable people I actually know when it comes to boats, suggested we buy a CD27. And renowned nautical author or not, anyone who can talk his more or less non-sailing spouse into crossing an ocean, well, I want what he's having (the boat - I like my own spouse...
