fmuller can you say more about why they're unsuitable for offshore passages? Is it seakindliness, storage space, reliability, or something else?
People seem to take 28s around the world. What makes them different?

Re: 25D vs. 27
Sounds like the head is the main difference, which I could see mattering to a lot of people, and the 25D wins that battle. Anything else that would push you towards the 27? Being a little less seasick, sleeping a little better, and moving a little faster on a passage seem valuable but not overwhelmi...

25D vs. 27
Hi there, I'm getting a little closer to buying my dream boat. Couple of years out still, and still debating between the 27 and 25D (and a couple others). I'd really like to be able to get by with a reasonable-sized tow vehicle, which seems possible with the 25D but less so with the 27. I understand...

Re: 25 vs 27
Nope ... I just took a well kept boat and fixed her up even more - but very little modification. Looking at your list, I shudder to think what you'd call a modification :) The two full berths in the salon is really nice as is the headroom. Are you saying that the salon berths in the 25D are larger ...

Re: 25 vs 27
Not just any full size truck will pull this boat. You make a good point. It's true that 7500->10000 might mean the difference between a half-ton and a 3/4 ton, and that a 1-ton would feel more comfortable. I've gotten so used to pulling trailers with overloaded vehicles that just having one rated f...

Re: 25 vs 27
While it's always dangerous to draw conclusions from a few sample points, if I were to assume that your responses were representative, I could formulate a case why 27s are less likely to be kept than 25Ds. Here are the three owner profiles I'm hearing. 1. The 27 is a little too big to trailer. I did...

Re: 25 vs 27
When you say "street Legal" do you mean you want a trailer sailer or you are going to tow it once. Something in-between perhaps. I suspect I'd put it in the water maybe 5 times a year in different locations for long trips. From my perspective, towing a 7500 lb trailer vs. a 10,000 lb trai...

25 vs 27
I'm learning more about the Cape Dory boats for purchase in a couple of years. From what I can tell, the 25D or 27 are what I'm looking for, being the largest street-legal cruisers. Other than bathroom and berth placement, galley layout, and size/weight, they look basically identical. They were even...

Oh, I see. Pulling out the axle isn't an intentional strategy ![Smile :)](./images/smilies/icon_smile.gif)

Re: How much does 6" matter in a trailer launch?
I'd be curious if anyone has ever seen a design for a good roller-style trailer? It seems like you could roll a boat off the trailer even if it's not floating yet. I have heard of folks pulling the axle out from under their trailers. I can't imagine how you would do this, especially on a multi-axle ...

Thanks Dick! That sounds like great advice - I'll do that!tartansailor wrote:The one critical point is what happens if your trailer wheels go off the ramp on the deep end.
You can remedy that potential grief moment if you have a welder weld skid plates at the front of the wheels.

Re: Cost Per Sail
The question is, do I get enough additional sailing pleasure out of the 25 to justify the cost? I agree that this is the question. I also think like you do and for me considering the cost is part of the pleasure. A related question is "If I didn't spend this $2500/yr on this, is there somethin...

How much does 6" matter in a trailer launch?
Hi all, new member from Wisconsin. Glad to be here! I'm considering a 25D vs. a 27. My questions are as follows: How much harder is it realistically to trailer-launch a CD with a 4' draft vs. a 3.5' draft? What percentage of ramps that would allow for launching with a 3.5' draft would not allow for ...
