Re: Electric CD25

One more update and kind of a surprise. A real benefit of the electric outboard has been in motor sailing. Most if not every time I'm sailing out here in Maine I get into areas of low or unreliable wind between an island or with/against current. The Spirit 1.0 is so easy to add into the equation by ...

Re: Electric CD25

Just want to say I got my Spirit 1.0 and 2 batteries. What a great little motor! I can make pretty decent way at only 200-300w, which gives me hours of run time. Definitely not power boat speeds but great for a sailboat.

No more GAS.

Re: Electric CD25

Very cool! I am considering one of these motors for my Daysailer (O'Day), so a much lighter design. I've been a little nervous around here though because it's coastal Maine where some rivers meet the ocean. Currents can be strong, more so than headwind. I'm a little nervous that I'll run out of juic...

Re: Wish to buy a CD 22, CD 22D, or a Typhoon Senior

Thanks for the insight! I think you're likely right about the CD22 over the SS23 designs. I'm guessing my ah...less sailing enthusiastic wife would also appreciate the creature comforts. If costs were equal, hooo boy would I love a 25D. Seems like a just about perfect boat for a kidless couple. Howe...

Re: Wish to buy a CD 22, CD 22D, or a Typhoon Senior

Any luck with your search? I'm in...or I should say out of...the same boat! I have been having an internal debate with myself about finding a CD22 or Senior vs the Sea Sprite 23 vs a Contessa 26. The SS23 seems lovely but with the least interior space, the CD22/Seniors are damn near perfect, and the...

Re: Dry Sailing vs. Mooring

Are you talking about a Typhoon or 22? I just can't picture launching a full keel boat multiple times in a Summer. Sure maybe you can do it mast-up but I feel like the exercise would take half a day for each procedure at minimum. Why would it be less wear on the rig to put it on the hard? Wouldn't y...

Re: 25D vs. 27

My two cents.... I started out searching for a 22-then 25D-then 27. The 22 wasn't priced properly and the owner was not motivated to correct. Couldn't locate a 25D on the great lakes and the 27 was well outside of the estimated value. So then I discovered a 28. It has 6ft 2in of headroom, 8 opening...

Re: 25 vs 27

I suspect you know this but I'd not fixate too much on just Cape Dory 25 / 27 - there are plenty of other old plastic boats laying around cheep as chips ... many in general, just as worthy as Cape Dorys to be truthful ... here in Narragansett Bay every boatyard has two or three it seems looking for...

Re: Cost Per Sail

I don't have a CD (YET!) so I can only comment as someone who wants to start sailing a bigger boat. I currently have an O'Day DS1 which I'm learning on, and even with that the costs have started to add up because it needs a bit of restoration. However my hope is that I'm well situated to sail 'relat...

Re: Please Spam Me With Your CD 22 Stories

He does not have cushions, but the trailer is good to go.

I actually am capable, assuming I get a pattern, of getting the cushions sewed at cost. I’m guessing I can cut the foam? That seems easier hah.

Can you leave a CD22 on a mooring for the whole of sailing season?

Please Spam Me With Your CD 22 Stories

I’m seriously considering a “non-senior” CD22 that is being locally sold here in Maine. I live on Westport Island here in Midcoast Maine, and I’m looking for a step up from my O’Day DS1. I’m hoping my wife and I can do some weekend cruising to local islands, spend some nights off shore, but nothing ...
