Re: Sailing south for winter
Sorry, Jim, I should have been more specific. Yes, the boat is on Cape Cod (Stage Harbor at the moment). And I’m open to doing the trip in sections. I’m actually not sure how much sailing I’ll end up doing this winter. But part of the reason I want to make the trip is because in future winters I’d l...

Sailing south for winter
Hey All, I haven’t posted much lately but we’ve had a great 3rd season with Joan Wilder on the cape. It’s been a short summer because we’re also moving from LA to Atlanta. And since we’ll be on the East coast I’m thinking of taking her down to Savannah or thereabouts for the winter. But I have no ex...

I kind of thought I would eventually see some pictures of Joanie in the eye candy forum. Here is a picture of Florian arriving in Gig Harbor.

Re: Henri poised for a grand entrance
Before Henri became the beast that it is, I sailed Joanie from Sesuit Harbor on the north side of the cape to Stage Harbor on the south side. My sailing season is over and a friend in Chatham takes care of my boat during the off season. So having the boat down there makes everything easier until I c...

It’s not enough…
Our season started on June 17 and it’s ending next week on Aug 18. I did a 4 day cruise in June and as much daysailing as I could squeeze in, but I want more! It’s not enough. But the kids need to get back to school and life back on the west coast is calling to us. I’m having some work done to the b...

Re: Bimini height on CD36 (again?!)
Thanks, John. I admire you and what you’ve done with the Far Reach. You obviously have learned a lot about your boat and what she needs and you seem very in sync with her. I think your advice is exactly right. I have looked at a lot of pictures and I’ve seen what I DON’T want and I’ve decided on wha...

Re: Bimini height on CD36 (again?!)
Florian is a 36’ correct? Do you have any pics of her from the side? I’d love to see how you have the Bimini positioned and attached.

Re: Bimini height on CD36 (again?!)
That’s an excellent point. I hadn’t thought of that. I don' have a bimini, but I. have many old English sports cars, with single layer canvas convertible tops. The heat that can radiate downward off of a canvas top is incredible. I would want as much room as possible between the top of my head and ...

Bimini height on CD36 (again?!)
Hey all, I know this has been discussed a lot in the past (Bimini interference with boom), but I'd like to ask a more specific question about it. I've decided to add a Bimini to Joanie and I'm trying to determine what the height should be. My first strategy was go to go out and sail as close to the ...

Re: Installing Blue Sea ACR
JD, I was talking about the ground wire, it should be fused within 7 inches of the ACR. Your battery wires are correctly fused at the battery like in your second picture. Jeff I fused the ground wire way down by the negative bus. After reading your post and looking back over the instructions it doe...

Re: Installing Blue Sea ACR
Thanks, guys. I went with 14awg. Haven’t yet wired it all up but I’m close. Problem is while I was doing this my Balmar battery meter suddenly stopped working an I have no idea why. As I was changing up the wires I must have changed something and now the balmar doesn’t see the shunt anymore. Tech su...

Installing Blue Sea ACR
Hey all, My plan is to install the ACR as a way to learn more about marine wiring and learn more about my boat’s DC system. I recently had my local marina install a Balmar SG200 and I learned a lot by watching that install. Still have more to learn though. I think I understand how to determine the w...
