Re: Does the cape Dory 28 have a bobstay?
I have no bobstay on my 1975 CD28 hull #46. So far it has not hampered my sailing! Thankfully we have no dolphins as yet in Lake Ontario, but the way things go these days it would not surprise me. The bowsprit has remained fast and leak free so far without any indication of compromise. I have read ...

Re: Does the cape Dory 28 have a bobstay?
Here are a couple better pics. It's overcast today. Next time it's sunny I'll try to take more. It seems like someone cut the teak flat at the front and made their own anchor roller. I was going to get some teak anyway. I could make another teak platform up there. Maybe that's where the eye went tha...

Re: Does the cape Dory 28 have a bobstay?
Thanks for the replies. I don't have the hull number at the moment. It is a 1975. Yes it is new to me. It has a cast bronze angle plate under it. I don't see where there is any slot for a eye to protrude from the bow. Unless it was removed and faired. I can get the hull number if it makes a differen...

Does the cape Dory 28 have a bobstay?
I've just gotten my 28 to the house to start the refit and I noticed there isnt a bobstay under the bowsprit. It has the bronze angle price bolted on but that's it. In the line drawings there is a bobstay. Anyone have a 28 without one?
Thanks

Re: What reman engine should I replace my Volvo mD2B with
If you don't want to go for new, I'd consider a search for a "running take out" rather than a reman. Sometimes boats get scrapped with fairly recent re-powers, particularly following a good hurricane season. I've seen Betas and Yanmars advertised with only a couple hundred hours on them o...

What reman engine should I replace my Volvo mD2B with
I'm trying to find options for replacing a MD2B Volvo with something still in production, that's remanufactured. A new 16-20 ho diesel replacement seems to be just under 10k , I would like to find something around 5k which puts me in the remanufactured range, but I'm wondering what others have found...

Re: Adding a pilot berth to a 28
To he honest the pilot berth was a afterthought. I was thinking about removing the galley on that side and putting a chart table there. Mostly because I like chart tables. I figured the pilot berth would make sense, it would probably be used more for storage for guitars to he honest. I guess if I ju...

Adding a pilot berth to a 28
I have a 28. I am thinking of ideas to change the layout to better suit me. I was wondering if anyone has added a pilot berth to a 28. I was thinking about putting the galley all on one side and using the port side as a pilot berth with a chart table. I know I'd have to strengthen the bulkhead that ...

Difference between a CD 28 and 30 ketch
I was wondering the difference in the interior volume, and ease of single handing , in the Cape Dory 28 and the 30 ketch. I want to cruise single handed, and own a 28 but I know where I can get a 30 ketch for a good price, just wondering if it's worth it.

Attaching stuff to the headliner
How do you guys attach rod holders, net baskets, etc to the ceiling in the cabin? I have a 1975 CD28, I assume the headliner is similar with most of them. I don't know if I should go just into the headliner with some ss screws, or thru the headliner into the bottom skin.
Thanks
