Re: My 1979 Typhoon Weekender is for sale
Definitely sailing her when the heat wave allows. Taking this boat out made me realize how much I missed the connection to the wind and water through the tiller and sheets. As a result I sold my 32 ft Dufour and am buying a Tartan Fantail Weekender to get that connection back and have room to take f...

Re: My 1979 Typhoon Weekender is for sale
Battery fits nicely in the starboard locker alongside the porta potty. Just needed some slight trimming of the plastic battery box. I made the organizer from scrap sunbrella from the covers. Took about 20 minutes and is very useful

1979 Typhoon Weekender has a buyer.
Took this wonderful little boat on as a winter restoration project last year and it is now back to the way it should be. New sails this year include main, genoa with foam luff padding on new CDI furler and an Asymm spinnaker. Also has a smaller jib, plus the original sails from 1979. Torqeedo 1003 o...

Re: typhoon and CDI Furler
As Dick noted, you really don't need a shackle for these small sails. My Genoa has a webbing loop and a bowline to the halyard.

Re: typhoon and CDI Furler
You may need to cut a couple of inches off the furler track at the top to enable it to clear. I had the same issue and it works fine now. If the mast is up, you can tie off the unused Genoa or spinnaker halyard to hold the mast up while you disconnect the forestay/furler drum to slide the plastic fu...

Re: Chesapeake boating is open
Thanks for the tip. The sheets are just on the cleats while the Genoa is furled. Haven’t tried the sails yet. Hopefully get out this week.

Chesapeake boating is open
Nice coincidence that I was able to launch my rehabbed Typhoon on the same day as boating was opened on the Chesapeake. This little boat had been sitting neglected out of the water for ten years until I bought her last October and I swear she was singing when we took her over to the slip in the mari...

Re: Typhoon Weekender sails
1F095148-1704-44FA-BE0B-F70033967BF0.jpeg I recently made my own sails for a TY weekender from a Sailrite kit. With a 10% discount and free shipping, the full battened main and furling Genoa came in at $870 including MD sales tax. The kits are really well prepared and the instructions are excellent...

Re: Typhoon Ready to go when..........
I first gave the whole boat a power wash to get off the worst of the crud and lichen and went very gently on the teak, before removing all except the toe and rub rails. Winter project was minor repairs the the coaming boards and light sanding, then eight to ten coats of Epifanes multi coat varnish. ...

Re: Typhoon Ready to go when..........
Yes the Star arrived there a few weeks ago. A bit sad but looks sound. At least in nicer shape than the Catalina 22 they tried to move below a tree with the mast still up. Oops.

Re: Typhoon Ready to go when..........
Yes. This is Selby Bay Marina. My other boat is in Holiday Point. Joe Gunn from Mast and Mallet worked on the restoration of a Weekender last year (Edna) and it looked stunning. When I saw this forlorn Typhoon in the SB marina lot I could not resist and am thoroughly enjoying bringing her back to li...

Re: Typhoon Ready to go when..........
This little boat has been a delight to work on. All I am really doing is bringing things back to the way she was. Plus new sails, cushions and covers. After working on larger boats, it is great to be able to paint the bottom with ½ a gallon in 45 minutes!!

From this to this and ready to get the mast on, but no more progress until I am allowed to go to the marina.

Re: Varnish Recommendations
I have been using Semco Honey Gold as a sealer on my teak rails on the Typhoon, and Epifanes on the coamings etc. Applied Semco last year in May on my other boat and it still looks good and has the appearance of the boats you see at the boat shows. As a water based product, it is easy to clean. Inst...
