Re: Seacock replacement - brand / model recommendations?

Thx John. The backing blocks are the BB-series from Groco, which is made of some type of pvc type material that seems to bond super well with epoxy (almost like it soaks it up). They can be used with a sealant / adhesive instead as well, and is able to compress ever so slightly (but won’t absorb moi...

Re: Seacock replacement - brand / model recommendations?

Continuing to share the through hull work. Took advantage of the warm weather to get the epoxy to kick/cure for glassing in backing blocks

I really like the Groco setup. Still need to cut the bolts and new through hull to size, but just about done with this particular project

Re: CD30 Bowsprit

Thx for the pic JD .. Some full disclosure here My wife and I have been talking about putting a manual windless on it, but the issue for us is that we intended this boat to be transitory, intended to learn both how to sail and how to maintain a sailboat. I’m a life long power boater, grew up boating...

Re: CD30 Bowsprit

Winner :D

Wedges were key. Also, don’t forget to take out the one screw that binds toe rail to the bowsprit (pics below). /face-smack

I wasted time wondering why the bowsprit wouldn’t pop off when the wedges were about halfway up the bowsprit

Re: CD30 Bowsprit

Sand them smooth as you can and wax them with carnauba. Also, I highly recommend no 5200 on your boat. Same for silicone. Roger that. Is there a specific adhesive/sealant product you recommend? PS - I am on my way to your project page now to see if it’s posted there  Edit - just got back from...

Re: CD30 Bowsprit

Was thinking some dawn detergent, or cutting board carnuba wax, would work. Always interested in successes / failures from others experiences

Re: CD30 Bowsprit

Catching up on the thread still. Going to go through the tools recommendations. Still trying to figure out the easiest way to make some oak shims. I stopped by the hardware store and picked up the metal punches and snagged some plastic shims (being the only thing I could find on my way out to the bo...

Re: CD30 Bowsprit

Thx John ... some great ideas I just picked up there. I’ll have to figure out how to make some wedges with the tools I have; wish I had a band saw. Thinking I can use my jigsaw and 2x4s For the saw, I have a small handsaw that takes a hacksaw blade and makes it a flex saw. Thinking it’ll work for sa...
