Best non skid surface paint?
Hi everyone, A few months ago I sanded and teak oiled my toe rails and teak pieces on deck. Then I got lazy and didn't clean up the mess and the teak oil stained the deck (see pic). I can't clean it off so I've decided to paint over it. Any suggestions for what paint I should use? Number of coats? T...

Re: CD28 dimensions question
Hi,
Good points - thank you! I think it is going to be cost prohibitive anyway. So, I've made it from Virginia to South Florida....I'll just have to do the Panama Canal if I get that far.

CD28 dimensions question
Hi,
I'm hoping someone either know this or can tell me where to find it: What is the height from the bottom of the keel to the top of the cabin (without the mast). I am considering shipping my CD28 demasted and companies want to know the exact height of the shipment. Thanks!

Re: Leaking stuffing box access
Hi everyone, Well the stuffing box has been tightened and I was even able to get into the lazarette and out of it. It required 3 tools and a mechanic to make this happen. - a pipe wrench to hold the stuffing box in place because the 2 nuts were frozen (it appeared to have been a long time when this ...

Re: Leaking stuffing box access
Thanks for the advice Steve. The problem with boat mechanics is that they don't want to work on a small old boat. Anytime I call one all I get is "we're slammed right now" etc. But if it's a big expensive boat they do seem to find time for them. But I do agree that it might be the best way...

Leaking stuffing box access
Hi everyone, The stuffing box on my Cape Dory 28 is leaking at a rate of 2 seconds per drip when the engine is running and 20 seconds per drip when it's off. I know I need to get down there with 2 pipe wrenches and tighten the stuffing box nut or worse, repack it. The problem is accessing it through...

Re: Gelcoat damage repair....can it wait?
Jean, Jim, Tim - thanks!! I'd prefer to wait and fix it when I pull the boat and paint the topside later in the summer.

Gelcoat damage repair....can it wait?
Hi guys, So I am heading south down the icw in my CD28 and in my travels I have picked up (or maybe I already had) gelcoat damage (see attached pics). I am in NC at the moment and wanted to get your opinion on the following question: Can the repair of what is in the pics wait until I get to Florida ...

Re: Faint alarm sound when I turn the boat on
Hi guys and thanks for the advice. Since the day it happened, it has not happened again. I'm going to check the sensors and power just to be safe. If I figure out what caused it I'll be sure to post it on here.

Re: Suggestions for fixing a bent stern stanchion
The story of the bent pushpit, busted deck light, busted anchor cotter pin frame and a huge gash in my finger is a result of my u mixing elbow being so corroded that while I was motoring through large waves in the commercial ship channel the coupling that connects the elbow to the riser disintegrate...

Re: Suggestions for fixing a bent stern stanchion
Thanks for your feedback gentlemen. I was able to use the winch to get it a little closer to what it was....but I do see a welder in my future. My boat was being towed out of the Norfolk ship channel (long story involving a corroded u mixing elbow) by the Hampton volunteer fire Dept. The tow was fre...

Faint alarm sound when I turn the boat on
Today as I got ready to head down the ICW, I turned my engine on and it fired up just fine. But once it was in the "on" position I heard a faint alarm sound from the starboard locker. If I turn the engine to "Off" the engine still runs and the faint alarm stops. If I put it back ...
