We had the rusting steel weldment in the fiberglass causing bulges on the topsides. We removed the bad steel, leaving the upper backing plate. Well, the 3" bolts I bought would have worked just fine, except that I added 1/4" G-10 to the mix, which made the 3" bolts about 1'8" to short. Read about that on our blog. The nylock part of the nut was not engaging. I did not think about the extra 1/4" when i ordered, so I...

I bought the wrong size for me as I rebuilt a little differently, and should have bought 3 1/2" long bolts. 3" might work for you. I have 8 3"x1/2" and 8 3"x3/8" bolts, all flat head slotted fully threaded 18-8 stainless steel. All brand new from Fastenal. See https://w...

Thanks to all those who responded. After further research I've decided that I still need further research, thus the slow response to thank those that responded. Each of my bolts has 1/2 inch or more threads exposed below the nut, so maybe all mine are 3-1/2", or I just have plenty of room for 3...
