Re: Single Hand Docking with Bob Stay-CD30 Cutter
It depends on how your slip is configured. Posting a photo of the slip would help you get better advice. I used to run sailing charters for many years on a 30-foot sailboat (though not a Cape Dory) and always docked singlehanded. The best tool I had in my bag of tricks was a spring line run aft from...

I found that site more complicated than I'd like. Here's the hurricane "spaghetti model" forecast I like to look at: https://web.uwm.edu/hurricane-models/models/

Re: Arietta - Engineless to Northeast Harbor
It's a Walker Bay 8. I like it because it's light weight and takes quite a beating. I used to say "indestructible" until I destroyed my last one, so now I know better.

Re: Cockpit Coaming Rebuild
I was expecting from your description to see the coamings split into multiple pieces. In the photo they look good. Is the damage on the other side?
Good luck with the project!
Smooth sailing,
Jim

Re: mainsail leech flutter
I think you mean luff not leech. When the conditions are right (wrong?) both my Typhoon and CD22 both do this. There seems to be a certain apparent wind speed and relative wind angle that make it happen, as I recall a beam reach in around 15 knots of breeze. Under certain conditions the luff hums lo...

Re: PROPER LOOS TUNING TOOL FOR CD 25
My Typhoon wire sizes all fit in the PT-1, but my CD22 has wire sizes that need both the PT-1 and PT-2. It's too bad they don't make one gauge that covers a wider range of wire sizes.

Re: Sunset sail aboard SV Tracey Lynn Cape Dory 25
What a lovely evening sail. Thanks for sharing it! One suggestion I have is to remember to ALWAYS film video in horizontal ("landscape") mode rather than vertical ("portrait") mode, otherwise the only people who can comfortably watch your videos are the ones who watch on a cell p...

Then get a tarp (heavy weight is best) from Harbor Freight or Tractor supply making sure that the tarp is as long as the boat and wide enough to drape over the hoops and drop a foot or so below the gunwales. ... Re: Winter cover frame
For what it's worth, here's the cover to my CD22. The mast is the ridge pole, and there are no frames. The the cover is tied down to the trailer and is tight enough that snow spills off. The trick to this arrangement is to remove the stanchions before putting the cover on so you don't have to build ...

Re: Arietta - Engineless to Northeast Harbor
Great photos. Those waves from Hurricane Earl are beautiful and terrifying! Fortunately we were in Northeast Harbor during the time of the biggest waves. Even so, when we went by South Bunker Ledge the waves were making loud roaring and clapping noises as they broke on the ledges and shoreline of S...

Well that clearly didn't work. All the images showed up last night, but this morning they were gone. DropBox must give out temporary URLs for its images. Oh well. Here's try 2:

Arietta - Engineless to Northeast Harbor
Last week we took a little six-day cruise aboard Arietta , our Cape Dory 22. Although it's not the longest cruise we have taken aboard her--that honor goes to our 12-day delivery from Boston to Vinalhaven--it is the longest cruise we have done without an engine. I hope you enjoy the photos! Smooth s...

Re: Arietta...Engineless!
What a difference it looks sailing engineless! I couldn't help noticing the similarity between Goose Rocks light and Spring Point light in South Portland. Separated from the same spark plug package at NAPA? There are several similar ones in the Cheasapeake, too--Hooper Island and Sharps Island, I b...
