Reusing old cotter pins
I've never seen nor read about this method being used before. I'm probably not the first person to ever do this, but I'm claiming it as my own "invention" until someone sets me straight. Yesterday I went to attach the spreaders of my Cape Dory 22 back to the mast and found that I didn't ha...

Re: Typhoon Weekender #1508 - Hull gelcoat replacement
Just a long overdue follow-up...This is the trailer from my CD22 with the keel guide boards removed (left) and in-place (right). Fortunately when Triad built this trailer they used lag bolts that were easily accessible. My older Triad Typhoon trailer has the boards through-bolted and they can't be r...

Re: AC Installation
I used to live aboard in Florida and have had several different air conditioning setups over the years. I have used small residential window units in both the companionway and forward hatch, a Carry-On over the forward hatch and cabin top hatch, and a fully installed belowdecks marine A/C unit. They...

Re: Need recommendation for cleaning blackened teak
It turns out the black stains that remained after cleaning and brightening were just water saturation in the wood. After a day of drying they were gone, with no additional bleaching needed. I'm sure the black stains will re-appear as water soaks back in around the toe rail through-bolts. 20230613_09...

Need recommendation for cleaning blackened teak
I have some black stains on the toe rail of my Typhoon that are proving unresponsive to any attempt to clean them: 20230610_081607.jpg This photo was taken after stripping the old varnish off and applying multiple rounds of West Marine One Step Teak Cleaner and Brightener. The cleaner/brightner is h...

Re: Tohatsu SailPro First Impressions
If you don't use the traveler as a traveler, you could add a slider to the T-track in an appropriate location and use a cable tie to keep the hose from flopping around and getting in the way. If you decide to run the hose through the bulkheads you could use the opportunity to add a permanent Racor f...

Re: Tohatsu SailPro First Impressions
Next up is finding a way to route the fuel line so I can keep it connected to the motor whilst sailing (without being in the way). Right now i have it held in place with a few cable ties so it's not lying loose on the cockpit seat. I want to pipe it thru the aft lazarette out the transom. What's wr...

Re: interior make over
Normal bedsheets might be a maintenance problem because they will tend to collect mildew. Some kind of vinyl is usually used for this purpose because it is easy to wipe clean.

Re: Video: Installing an Engine and Folding Prop
Likes, comments, subscribing is the most important way for channels to grow. It's how the algorithm works. Along with views (we don't use click bait so it's all content driven) these are the metrics YouTube uses to promote the video and the channel in a very crowded field. Channel growth expands th...

Re: Raising/Lowering the mast using an A-Frame
Nice modification to extend the A-frame above the pivot a little to accommodate the roller furling. I guess that makes it an X-frame, strictly speaking?

Re: Hoist Launching Typhoon
A few tips for hauling out with straps: * Have a photo of the boat in profile that you can use to line up items above the water like portholes or cleats with items below the water like the front of the keel or the back of the rudder. That way you will know where the straps are underwater even if you...

Re: electric outboard for TySenior
I normally sail my CD22 without any engine on the transom, but I did set my boat up to be able to use a 62-pound-thrust trolling motor. It is a far cry from the purpose-built electric outboards like Torqeedo or EPropulsion, but it was also a fraction of the cost. Perhaps my experience will be instru...
