Universal M-18 compression test
For those with the Universal M-18 engine: has anyone ever performed a compression test on it? Through the glow-plug hole or the fuel injector hole. Did you make the adapter from an old injector or purchase it somewhere? If you made it can you tell me how and if you bought it can you tell where?

Cape Dory 30C Jib sheets and how we stow them
How do you stow your boat's jib sheets? The yankee cut jib makes untying them from the clew problematic. I've just been leaving them rigged and secured at the winch and am seeing some chaffing on the sheets where they rest on the shroud. Baggy wrinkles are one solution. What are the rest you doing.

CD30C bilge design
1984 Cape Dory 30C "To The Moon". Inspecting the bilge pump today with an inch left after running. Moving aft to just fwd of the engine room is another inspection fitting opening into a waaayyy deeper bilge that has over 12 inches in it. There is a bulkhead that separates the two with the ...

Wind transducer
My CD30C has a wind transducer mounted on the stbd quarter of the stern pulpit. Previous owner installed. Connected to my Simrad WP30 Wheelpilot thru a NMEA wired connection. Used when sailing to the wind vs sailing to a course. Pics show the set up pretty well. It is frozen and only turns with some...

Cape Dory 30C and Universal M-18 engine
Chasing a cooling problem and will be removing the heat exhanger from her Universal M-18. Checking the service manual does not show any detail on mounting bolts, studs or bracket(s). Anyone have that information? Thanks!

Re: Universal M-18 engine in my CD30
Thanks for all the input. Pulled the exhaust riser and mixing elbow. All clear. Further investigation reveals a engine temp issue and I will be removing the heat exchanger for inspection and cleanout. Will address a couple of questions on that in a new post.

Universal M-18 engine in my CD30
Well, my Universal M-18 has decided to start spitting diesel blow by from the exhaust at anything above 2,200 rpm. RPM's will not advance past 2,400 no matter how much throttle input. I used to see blow by @ 2,600-2,700 rpm but could still advance the rpm's to 2,900-3,000. Could this be something si...

Looking for CD28/30 mainsail
Searching for gently used (or new) main for CD30 cutter. CD28 will work also. Figured I'd throw it out on the forum before I start searching everywhere else.

In case anyone wanted to see what I came up with. Pin rails made from 100 year old cedar and the belaying pins turned from mesquite.

Re: CD30 Cutter pinrails
Thank you Steve! I have access to some old growth cedar I'm going to cut down. I just wanted to be able to get all the halyard off the mast and maybe stow some other stuff. Hadn't thought of a butt rest and will place mine at the right height.
