My CD is a 1981 and has the bronze ports. It might be that the chord I purchased was too stiff. I will try the soft version from McMaster-Carr to see if that makes a difference. Thank you all for your responses.

When I bought my CD28 it did not have gaskets on the ports. I have owned it for 22+ years and never knew until recently that the ports were supposed to have gaskets. They would leak sometimes but simply tightening them would resolve the problem. After realizing that they were supposed to have gasket...

To simply adjust the packing gland, I use a long screw driver/pry bar and a hammer. Lay down head first in the starboard lazarette and you should be able to reach both nuts. To replace the packing requires I go all the way in head first. Not a fun job.

I had the same issue with my Beta 16 a few months ago. Test the button with a multimeter first to see if the circuit closes when the button is pushed. My problem turned out to be the button. Cheap & easy replacement. Another easy check is to remove the wires from the back of the button but keep ...
