Thanks -
OK - so I can assume that the 81 Ty had no drain plug?
Any idea on how to check the rudder post as a source? I check the Rea out with the yard when they stripped, fared and re-painted and it looked sound.
I do keep an outboard on the boat.

Typhoon bilge and drain plug
My 81 Ty WE takes on some water in the bilge. As part of a complete restoration I had the boat (hull and deck) completed striped, fared and painted by a very professional company who has worked on many Tys . It's tight. Hull fittings for cockpit drain are dry. I think it is mostly rain water - I tas...

Typhoon standing rigging specifications
I am replacing the lines, cables and fittings on my Ty this winter. Can anyone direct me to specifications for the boat? It may even be here on this owners site somewhere?
Thanks

Re: Typhoon - Boom Gooseneck connection questions
Hey Jim, Yes - Rockland - hull number on the mainsail #1841. Hope I see you out there in one of your boats. Our little section of Penobscot Bay has about 9 Typhoons that I have seen including at least 4 in Rockland harbor. My previous 76 Ty is now in Owl's Head. Time to get our own division in the C...

Re: Typhoon - Boom Gooseneck connection questions
Thanks for all the feedback. It is indeed a roller furling goose-head that has a faulty lock. Based on the info in the forum I bought a new fixed goose-head and will use slab furling - my mainsail already has reefing points. I am doing the standing rigging this off-season so will incorporate the new...

Typhoon - Boom Gooseneck connection questions
I have the original Spartan Spars mast and boom on my 81 Ty. I am rigging it up for the first time since the boat got painted I took ownership. The boom end is loose and slides in and out on a bolt. This never happened on my 76 Ty. I am guessing that the bolt that hods the Gooseneck casting is loose...

Re: Typhoon Cam Cleat
I also had a 76 Ty WE and it had that same cam cleat. When I sold it last year it was still working pretty well. My new dilemma is to find a replacement for the cam cleat on my new to me 1981 Ty WE. I had the deck painted and I am replacement the standup spring blocks which I was lucky to find at Ri...

Typhoon Weekender cabin top sag - replace deck?
I have hit a roadblock on the restoration of my 1976 Ty. The cabin top sag is severe and the deck cores are shot. My sag is in excess of 2" and holds water on the deck. I installed a compression post but it is 40 years too late. In talking with my fiberglass/paint shop the owner said he know of...

Re: Winches for a Typhoon WE
I think I found a good winch for the Ty. This Lewmar No. 6 Ocean Series Standard Winch in bronze looks good. Price is decent. https://www.defender.com/product.jsp?path=-1|118|2358547|2358550&id=2697 Just unsure about the size (it will fit on the bronze bracket base) ... any experience with sizin...

Winches for a Typhoon WE
OK - The first season with the boat was abbreviated but had good fun and learned a lot. For starters I will not be installing a battery or any power. It's a daysailer and stand-alone LED systems like I have on my inflatable will be fine. That was one of the many good pieces of advice I received from...

Typhoon Battery & wiring
I am adding a battery to my 76 CD Ty WE The yard says I should mount it in a case in the lazarette. I wonder why this would not be below in the cabin? Where did the boat maker originally mount them? What are other Ty owner's doing? Thanks much, Rick Gedney "Bess" 1976 Cape Dory Typhoon Wee...

Typhoon WE running lights
I am re-wiring my 76 Ty - the forward port starboard lights are good. It looks like I have had a few iterations of the white running light including one on the rear deck that leaked into the core. I see holes and some old wiring for a mast head light, etc. Two questions: Where is the original locati...

Re: Typhoon WE Thru hulls and seacocks
This one thread on this forum alone is worth the CDSOA dues and then some. Thank you all. I will glass up the forward thru hulls and now I need to decide if I am using a seacock or just a hose on the cockpit scuppers. Why do you think the original build had gate valves on these thru hulls ? What wou...

Typhoon WE delam and soft spots
Discovered my newly purchased 76 Ty WE had many holes sawed into her that were not sealed right and have quite a bit of wet rotted balsa, Most alarming is a jury rigged rear running light that allowed water in near the transom deck joint close to rear stay. The other is a 1.5" diameter hole for...
