CAPE DORY 30c "DE LA MER" is for sale
S/V DeLaMer, a 1983 Cape Dory 30c is reluctantly For Sale. This is a beautiful 1983 vessel, with only two owners over those 40 years. My wife and I have owned DeLaMer for 33 of those years, and spent the last 11 years living aboard full time. This boat has been fresh water sailed for her entire life...

Re: Boat Insurance rates almost double from last year.
I had the exact same problem with Geico Insurance, both for my car and my Boat/US insurance. Been a customer with them for 31 years, same vessel too. I canceled the car insurance, went to Progressive Ins for the car..saved $465 over the Geico bill. On the boat insurance with Geico, mine went from $3...

Re: Help on cutlass bearing replacement CD30
I have done this job. Not too bad a job for the owner to try. One thing that I found out was that I did not have to remove the prop from the prop shaft, but simply rotate the prop shaft while pulling it backwards through the boat, rotating the prop around the rudder, which is turned full on to port....

Re: CD30 Propane System Installation
I did a propane installation last year on our CD30. We switched from the pressurized alcohol system. I chose to use a vertical 6 gal. tank, mounted to the stern rail. I have a couple 1 gal. green screw on bottles sitting i storage, just in case we run low on propane in the main tank. Hasn't happened...

Re: Cape Dory 30 Sail Plan
Great to see a post from you, Larry. When we bought Rover in 2002 you were a major source of useful information for us newcomers. I've often wondered how you're doing, so it's nice to see that you are still out there sailing. Tom, I check in occasionally, but mostly lurk I guess. Yes we are still sa...

Re: Cape Dory 30 Sail Plan
I use a 150% genoa on roller furling, along with the club-footed staysail. When tacking, the genoa is rolled up about 40-50%, the boat tacked, and then when on the opposite tack, the genoa will partially fill, and pull through the slot, pulling out the rolled up portion too. In light wind conditions...

Re: cape dory 30 engine question
I also have a Raw Water cooled MD7b on my CD30. The difference here is that I sail on Lake Superior, so internal corrosion of the engine is not a worry. In salt water, the engine will corrode quickly from the inside..in fact, down in Australia, I heard that they had a nickname for raw water cooled V...

Re: Solar Panel Sources
I have used Kyocera for my first 80 Watt panel, and then Sunsource for the second 85 watt panel. I bought a Victron Energy 15Amp MPPT controller and with that combination I get from 9-11 Amps out of the controller. This is in NW Wisconsin, on Lake Superior, where it is COLD, even now, and the sun is...

Engine Water Intake 'T' fitting
Hi, I was thinking about sailing projects today, since we have another round of -25 deg. air coming Monday with highs in the single digits, and I need to get the sailing fire relit in my head. I am trying to build a tee fitting that would fit into the engine water intake hose, and allow for the atta...

Re: New Sailing Movie
My vote for a good sailing movie..to a point, is "Dead Calm". Takes place in the South Pacific, is the first appearance of Nicole Kidman in a major pix, and the guy that makes you jump out of your seats is played perfectly by Billy Zane in one of his first roles. The movie still causes my ...

Re: ??s for L DeMers &/or Steve Laume
Hi, I made the holes as large as I did because I used a coat hanger extension for the plastic hose, and I wanted to have room to move the thing around when the foam got closer to the top. The size could easily have been smaller, but there is no penalty for the larger size. I covered the entire inter...

Re: 30CD vs 30B
We also removed the accordion door in the head area. But we do use the vberth as a permanent berth for my wife and I. The head drawer area that we converted from the sink and cabinet stowage configuration has added a ton of storage room for us. I used the whole area that is available, wall to wall, ...

"This list is because my Wife and I are looking at a B. For the most part weekenders, weekly day sailors on Lake Superior. 2 Weeks in the North Channel annually and soon retirement and more time aboard. " Hi, My wife Jan and I live-aboard DeLaMer, a CD30a version (Vberth) on Lake Superior ...

Re: CD31 Vibration
One thing that you mentioned that caught my attention, was that the rudder moved back and forth while this vibration was in effect. This seems to be improbable to me, as the mass of the rudder should prevent any oscillation like that...unless the pintle/gudgeon on the rudder base is worn, and moves ...

Re: ??s for L DeMers &/or Steve Laume
Hi, I just saw your question on this section of the board, so sorry if it is late in coming. What I did was to drill some 1 1/4 -1 1/2 inch holes into the interior panel of the refrigerator, spaced 6-8 inches apart, and running from the vertical wall down to the whole bottom. I used a "Pink&quo...
