Re: Universal M25 Heat Exchanger

I have a 1985 cd31 with what I believe to be the original heat exchanger. It works fine-engine never goes above 140. My problem is with the zinc, more specifically, the plug to which the zinc attaches. I cannot get the plug to thread properly. Is it possible that the plug on the original is an nps t...

Cd31 admirals station

Put off adjusting the decompression lever cable length and as a result have pulled the admiral station clear off its mooring. The plastic enclosure is totally shot and must be replaced. But all the gauges etc work . New admiral station cost around $700. Is there a source for just the plastic enclosu...

Re: Cd31 keel repair

Thank you all for weighing in. I definitely over reacted. I had a pro look at it and his prognosis and repair recommendation echo what you all have said. I am very relieved!

Cd31 keel repair

As a result of a few groundings over the past 2 years, I have ground the bottom of my keel down to what appears to be fiberglass. The groundings all occurred on sandy bottoms. But drag 5.5 tons across 30 or so yards of sand, your going to remove more than bottom paint. I have attached pics of my kee...

CD 31 needs a transmission

MY Hurth HBW 50 is completely ruined. I am told that even the housing is useless. There is not sufficient room in my engine compartment to accommodate the ZF 12M which replaces the HBW 50. So I am really starting to panic. I cannot find an HBW 50 to rebuild anywhere. Does anyone have a suggestion fo...

Removed hot water heater

I have removed the hot water heater from my CD31 and have no plans to replace it in the immediate future. My question is what to do with the now disconnected hoses. There are two pax hoses which I believe are the hot water supply lines to the head and galley sinks. I have a valve which can isolate t...

Re: Universal M25 oil pan

Thank you to all who have contributed to this thread. As long as no engine parts fall out when I drop the pan, I believe this is doable. If I can get the oil pan out, I will replace it. If no, replacing just the gasket will be fine. And I will definitely contact Kobota for the parts. I will be sure ...

Universal M25 oil pan

I would like to drop the oil pan and replace the gasket. I am sure the gasket is 35 years old and needs to be replaced. I would like to accomplish this without removing the engine. The boat is a CD 31 and there appears to be sufficient clearance under the engine. Has anyone attempted this? Thank you...

CD 31 hot water system - winterization

Hot water on my boat has always been a mystery to me. Since I am winterizing the boat myself this year, I have to figure it out. I have a breaker switch on my panel for a hot water heater but I have never used it. I have been all over the boat, inside the lazarettes, engine compartment, under the si...

Black soot from discharge - M25

I have begun to notice a black discharge from my exhaust upon starting the engine. This does not result in a slick and immediately sinks. So it is not oil. And the engine runs fine. I have seen other posts about a black moustache on the transom but this is different - no moustache. How worried shoul...

Thank you kindly for your reply. You are not the first to suggest that the problem could be related to a dirty ground. I will definitely check that out.

Water pressure replacement

When I switch on water pressure, the cabin lights dim and cause my chart plotter and radio to reboot on my CD31. There are no electrical problems that I am aware of. I want to replace my current water pressure unit with one that is as efficient as possible in terms of power consumption. I suspect th...
