Re: Water tank vent
Thanks Jim and Russ. That it's the vent for the holding tank makes more sense. I'll trace it back to confirm. I'll look for one of the 90 degree thru-hulls rather than a straight one, so as to not empty the tank when heeled.

Water tank vent
On the port side of my CD25 there is a small, dime sized vent (see photo) that I presume to be the vent for the water tank beneath the v-berth. The vent doesn't look stock, or if it is it's missing the aesthetic attachment. Does anyone know the correct part(s) for the job? Thanks. watertank_vent.jpg

Re: CD25 Keel rudder Help Pls
Hi John,
hard to see detail of the small drill hole in the image, but any water would have come from outside, not the bilge.

Re: Access Cover and Interior Wood CD25
If you're in a boat yard, you may find a boat or two has been abandoned, and the yard owner is willing to give you or sell you what you need from one of them. Never hurts to ask. I've been lucky this way.

Re: how remove tiller handle ??????
As mentioned by Roberto, it should have a single bolt that goes through the tiller bracket and tiller (see picture). The play could be because of this bolt being loose, there being a gap between the tiller post and bracket, or the hole through the tiller post itself is worn larger than the bolt. I h...

Re: Replace damaged rubrail section on CD25
Thanks for the replies. I went down to the boat to take a look and unfortunately, on the 1978 25', it's mounted directly to the hull. I may need to remove around a 6' section between mid ship and bow, unless I can just remove the screws fore and aft and cut it while still attached.

Replace damaged rubrail section on CD25
Good morning. There is about a 6 inch section of the rubrail (near the starboard bow) that needs to be replaced. The PO had filled the damaged area with bondo or a wood filler, but the repair was inadequate, at best. I've removed the filler to get an idea of the extent of damage (see picture). My qu...

Re: Barlow 15 winch differences
Thanks for the information Jim. The diagram seems to correspond to the winch on the right, as a 1/4-20 worked perfect. On the other I ended up going with a 5/16-20 hex cap screw until I can find a proper socket cap one that fits. An 8mm was slightly too large, and they didn't have any 7mm in stock t...

Barlow 15 winch differences
Barlow15.jpg I took the Barlow 15 winches off of my (new to me) 1978 CD25 for servicing, and noticed differences between the port and starboard winch. I assume that one of the winches is a later replacement. I'm posting photos as a subject of curiosity, but am also interested to know if anyone reco...

Re: Remove baked on varnish from fiberglass
Thanks for all of the suggestions. I ended up doing a mixture of a few of them. In the interest of the next person facing a similar issue, here is a follow up. The varnish had been baking onto the fiberglass for at least the 5 years that she was sitting on the hard, so chemicals proved futile. I end...

Remove baked on varnish from fiberglass
I've recently purchased a very well maintained 1978 CD 25. The previous owner took good care of the boat, but unfortunately, when applying varnish to the coamings in his later years, a lot of varnish ran down onto the fiberglass (see attached picture). I am trying to figure out the best way to remov...
