Re: Loose-footed main for a Typhoon
I don't have have a typhoon but the advantages of a loose foot is in the sail shape. You can put more or less camber in the sail for the conditions. In higher wind you tighten the outhaul and in light air or to power through chop loosen it.

Re: Haven at end of sailing life?
How about finding a younger, responsible, mechanical, person to share the boat with? Might make a new sailor.

Re: Lifelines
I removed the vinyl cover with a heat gun and knife then cleaned them. It also lets you get a better idea what kind of shape they are in.

Custom fender storage bags
I have 2 custom fender storage bags ( 4 Fenders). These zip on the lifeline and have a hole to also tie off to a stanchion. They will hold up to a 10' dia fender and are 20' deep. I used them for 1 year so they are like new. My cost to have made was $300 but I will sell for $75 each or $125 plus shi...

Re: Hand signals between bow and helm
The boat I bought last year had one of the hooks John linked to. As I haven't used it other to practice with at the dock I can't tell you how easy/hard it is to use in real conditions. Something I had read and haven't tried is to tie a line to one cleat and holding the other end in your hand, drop t...

Re: Where Is The Far Reach--Part III
We were in the BVI for a week on a Cat in early March, (please forgive me). I was expecting it to be loud in the mooring fields but was happily surprised. I only once heard music/noise from another boat and it was at 6pm and lasted 15 minutes. The mooring fields tended to be near full but it worked ...

Re: Getting New 25D Ready
Please rent a tow vehicle and spend one of the round trip time time amounts finding something close. My boat was 11/2 hrs. away and it stunk. I wouldn't drive 3 hrs. to do an hours work. It made each trip a full day which is a large commitment.

Re: Lake sailing suggestions
Sailing on a lake can make you a better sailor. I learned to sail my Hobie 16 on a lake and though sometimes it felt like you could sail in a circle without tacking when we started racing on the ocean we had an advantage. We were so used to always adjusting the sail trim that it paid handsomely agai...
